Why Sri Lanka Needs Better Trained Teachers
The future of Sri Lanka will not be shaped only by new buildings, technology or economic growth. It will be shaped by the quality of the teachers who stand in front of our classrooms every day.
Teaching is no longer about delivering lessons from a textbook. Today's students need educators who can inspire critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving and confidence. They need teachers who understand modern learning methods, embrace technology and know how to support every child, regardless of their background or ability.
Well-trained teachers create more than successful students. They nurture responsible citizens, future leaders and lifelong learners. A teacher who continues to develop professionally is better equipped to motivate students, adapt to changing educational needs and prepare young people for an increasingly competitive world.
Around the world, the highest performing education systems invest heavily in teacher development because they recognise one simple truth: great education begins with great teachers.
Sri Lanka has always valued education, but maintaining that legacy requires continuous learning for educators themselves. Professional training, internationally recognised qualifications and a commitment to lifelong development are no longer optional they are essential.
When we invest in teachers, we invest in every child, every classroom and the future of our nation. Better trained teachers do not simply improve education; they build a stronger Sri Lanka for generations to come.
