💢Walpolamulla is a village located within the Knuckles Mountain Range in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. It is considered one of the smallest and most secluded villages in Sri Lanka, nearly abandoned, with only remnants of homes and paddy fields remaining. Located near the Malkirigoda Gap, the village is only accessible by foot, being a 8 km trek from Etanwela, the last point with road access in the region.As of April 2025, the population is just two: a single married couple.

2008 saw the last major exodus from the village, with elephant incursions driving out all of its residents. The population at the time was 7, consisting of three families; as of 2024, two appear to have returned.Agriculture (historically, rice and betel nut) has been the mainstay in employment among residents.The village now serves as a paid campsite/overnight stay location as well.

Introduction to Manigala
Manigala is a popular hiking area situated in the Knuckles Mountain Range. It is situated near Pitawala Pathana on the road to Illukumbura. Manigala is known to be a hiker’s haven and is also popular as a camping site and for photography. There are camping locations no on top of the mountain peak.

Hiking Manigala
The Manigala hike begins from the Knuckles Mountain Range and runs through forests, mountains and terrains. The hike gives amazing views of the surrounding area including paddy fields and cultivation lands. It is a hike suitable for the average hiker and is best started early in the morning. Hikers get to pass and view the scenic villages of Atanwala, Pitawala Pathana, Thelgamu Valley, Riverston and beautiful waterfalls including Wedda Peni Ella and Duwili Ella.

History of Manigala
Manigala is a unique village with a scenic view. Back in the day, villagers used the shadow of the mountain to determine the time of the day. Folklore also say that King Ravana’s flight landed on Manigala about 7500 years ago. This gave it the name “Ravanathenna”.

💢 Riverstone, Sri Lanka

Located approximately 30 km from the Matale town, when travelling on Matale – Girandurukotte road, rather windy with quite a few hairpins turns but in good condition, offers great views all around with a mini worlds end, lot less travelled by main stream tourists. Climatic conditions here are very similar to Horton plains with the addition of having two great waterfalls “Sera Ella” and “Bambarakiri Ella”, both of which are a site for sore eyes, don’t forget to relax on the rock seats of “Sera Ella” relishing the cold misty spray of water on your face and Thelgamu Oya offers a great site for a dip in crystal clear but chilly water.
Travelling further upstream on this very scenic stream will no doubt will make you feel refreshed and rejuvenated. We recommend that you plan a trekking trip (02.5km) to the mist clad Riverston peak via pittawala pathana, as it offers some of the greatest views of the central hills across the mini worlds end which ends in a sheer drop of 300 meters offering a great vista especially of the “Knuckles range”, and the thelgamu valley below with its terraced paddy field method unique to the central hills of Sri Lanka.

පොඩි කාලේ ඉදන් මම ආසම දේ සොබාදහම 💚 ගෙදරට පේන කදුයායේම නගින්න මාර ආසාවෙන් ඉදියේ🥹 අද .. ගෙදරට පෙන කදුයායෙන් 4/1 ක වගේ කොටසක් මම මගෙ යාලුවොත් එක්ක බඩ ගාලා තියෙනවා 😌 තව තියෙනවා .ඒ ටිකෙත් ඉක්මනට බඩ ගානවා ☺️ මිදුලට ආවම පේන කදු ටිකේම බඩ ගාලා මට ඔනි මේ කදු ඔක්කොගෙන්ම මම විදපු හැගීම් එකින් එක විදගන්න 💚 අම්මගේ රසම රස තේ එක බොන ගමන් ,මට ඔනි මේ කදු ඔක්කොගේම තියෙන මගෙ මතක එකින් එක මතක් කර කර රස විදින්න😇💚🍃 කොළ පාට ඇබ්බැහියක් කියන්නෙ නිකන් නෙවෙයි 😌 කවුරැත් නැති කොළ පාට ලෝකෙක මිදුම එක්ක තනි වුනු අය දන්නවා ඒ හැගීම 🫂 මට ඔනි මැරෙන්න කලින් මෙ මුලු සොබදහමම හිතෙ හැටියට විදගන්න 😌 මේක පිස්සුවක් වගේ දකින අක්කලාට ,අයියලාට ,නැන්දලාට ,මාමලාට ,නංගිලාට ,මල්ලිලාට ….. මේක විදින්නම ඔනි හැගීමක් 💚 ඒක එකපාරක් වින්දම තියෙන සැනසීම , ඒක වචන වලට මට නම් පෙරලන්න තෙරෙන්නැ 💔 වචන වලට පෙරලන්න පුලුවන් කෙනෙක් ඉන්නවා නම් comments section එක ඔයාලට බාරයි💚
