Obituary

The Jaffna College Alumni Association is deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. A. Kumaravel, who served as a teacher at Jaffna College and a lecturer in its Undergraduate Department. He taught Economics, Social Studies, and History in the senior school and made valuable contributions to various extra-curricular activities.

A well-known orator and adjudicator at debating events in Jaffna, Mr. Kumaravel played a key role in cultivating oratorical and debating skills among the students of Jaffna College. Many of his mentees went on to become accomplished debaters and excel in public speaking.

He was often invited by the principals of Jaffna College to address the school assembly on contemporary social, political, and economic issues. His speeches were informative, insightful and often marked by a subtle, wry humour. He was widely respected within the Jaffna College community and beyond for his breadth of knowledge in these areas.

The Jaffna College Alumni Association extends its deepest condolences to the family of the late Mr. Kumaravel.

Request for Funds: Old Golds vs Patricians Annual Friendly Match

The Old Golds vs Patricians annual friendly match, a much-anticipated event that follows the Battle of the Golds season, will be held this year on the 11th of April 2026 at the Bicknell Memorial Ground. This year's match is host by the Old Golds.

The Jaffna College Alumni Association appeals to alumni across the world for their generous financial support to successfully organize this event. Your contributions will help ensure that this cherished tradition continues to be conducted in a satisfactory manner.

The Annual General Meeting of the Jaffna College Alumni Association will be held on Saturday, the 07th of February 2026 at 9.30 a.m. in Ottley Hall, Jaffna College.

There will be a worship service at the JDCSI Cathedral at Vaddukoddai at 9 a.m. prior to the meeting.

All members are requested to attend the meeting.
