Interview with the face of Treble and Bass Project. Janice De Silva.

Tell us about the live performance that you wrapped up in Colombo this year?
Ooh, yes; six nights, twenty-six voices in harmony, among other artists and an audience of five thousand, seven hundred and fifty. That was something special.

What was the whole experience like?
It was an amazing experience. I sang with twenty-six voices from all over Sri Lanka. We trained together for six months; incredible people, and fantastic working with them.
We sang in four-part harmony and in all three languages, which I had never done before, and it was a lot of fun and a lot of hard work… a lot of practice. And when it all came together it was simply divine.

Have you any advice for your students who watched you prepare for this amazing experience?
The common belief is “those who can't do, teach” Well, I blew that belief out of the water. So I’ll just say, if you have a dream, give it your best and you will be rewarded. You can only achieve what you work for.

The Treble and Bass Project is a music education program that prepares young musicians for careers in the performing arts industry. It is our belief that A GOOD FOUNDATION CREATES SKILLED PROFESSIONALS.

Encouraging Creativity.

Including students in the planning of a project will enable them to think outside the lesson plan and encourage their creativity.

The three young ones were asked to come up with a way to vocally support the younger singers and their reply after thinking about it was “how if we whistle”.

We tried it out, didn't use it, however, it got them used to thinking on their own.
This taught them that it is ok to try new ways of doing things; they may work or they may not, but it inspired them to try.

At Treble and Bass Project in Colombo, we believe that ideas are an important part of learning, and we encourage our students to try a little creativity.

Did you always want to learn to play piano but never got around to it?
Did you learn to play piano by ear, but never really understood how music worked? Now it's no problem.

Our new school year begins in September and with it new courses for the first time in Sri Lanka.
