The Library Network of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, in collaboration with the Faculty of Criminal Justice (FOCJ), conducted a one-day programme titled โ€œEmpowering Students via Reading & Researchโ€ for FOCJ undergraduates on 11th August 2026, at the sophisticated, state-of-the art upper floor area of the Main Library, with the aim of inculcating a reading culture among the students. The specific objectives of this one day session was to give the students an opportunity to explore the curriculum related text books, recommended readings, scholarly databases available in the library, and motivate them towards utilizing authentic sources of information resources for learning and research. Further, the students were inspired through interactive discussions with Prof. W. M. Dhanapala, Dean FOCJ, a prominent academic in Sri Lanka specializing in Criminology and Criminal Justice who played an active role as a Human Book, and Dr. Ruwan M. Jayathunga, a great personality, author of 60 books who delivered the book talk.

The programme included the events, Human Library, Book Talk on Criminal Psychology and Exhibition of print and e-resources related to the FOCJ curriculum.

The KDU Library Network, and faculty members of Faculty of Criminal Justice extend their sincere appreciation to the resource persons for their valuable support in successfully conducting the programme. Students from the Department of Police Sciences and the Department of Criminology participated in the activities and benefited from the programme.

KDU Library Network conducted an In- person workshop on " Introduction to AI Pazz legal reseach platform" to the academics of Faculty of Criminal Justice and Faculty of Law, at the Conference Hall of Faculty of Law on 09th July 2026. Mr. Parakrama Ratnayake, Director of RedBlocks AI Pvt Ltd, took part as a Resource person. The university librarian Mrs. UDH.Kanchna welcomed the resource person and the participants and inaugurated the workshop.
Workshop Coordinator Dr. M. M. Mashroofa, Liaison Librarian for the two faculties wrap-up the session with her gratitude to the participants and resource person.

The Staff Development Centre of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) organized a professional development session titled โ€œReference Styles and Mendeleyโ€ on 06 July 2026 for the academic staff of the university, with the aim of enhancing their research and scholarly writing capabilities.
Mrs. U. D. H. Kanchana, Librarian, KDU, conducted the session as the Resource Person, providing guidance on the effective use of academic reference styles and Mendeley, a reference management tool that supports researchers in organizing citations and managing bibliographic records.
The programme equipped participants with practical knowledge on improving referencing accuracy, strengthening academic writing practices, and effectively utilizing digital tools to facilitate their research activities.

The Capacity Building Workshop for Library Staff was held on 9 and 11 June 2026 and was organized by the Library's Internal Quality Assurance Cell. The workshop aimed to strengthen staff knowledge, skills, and professional competencies to improve the quality of library services. It offered both theoretical insights and practical training in key areas of library operations.
