The Library Network of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, in collaboration with the Faculty of Criminal Justice (FOCJ), conducted a one-day programme titled โEmpowering Students via Reading & Researchโ for FOCJ undergraduates on 11th August 2026, at the sophisticated, state-of-the art upper floor area of the Main Library, with the aim of inculcating a reading culture among the students. The specific objectives of this one day session was to give the students an opportunity to explore the curriculum related text books, recommended readings, scholarly databases available in the library, and motivate them towards utilizing authentic sources of information resources for learning and research. Further, the students were inspired through interactive discussions with Prof. W. M. Dhanapala, Dean FOCJ, a prominent academic in Sri Lanka specializing in Criminology and Criminal Justice who played an active role as a Human Book, and Dr. Ruwan M. Jayathunga, a great personality, author of 60 books who delivered the book talk.
The programme included the events, Human Library, Book Talk on Criminal Psychology and Exhibition of print and e-resources related to the FOCJ curriculum.
The KDU Library Network, and faculty members of Faculty of Criminal Justice extend their sincere appreciation to the resource persons for their valuable support in successfully conducting the programme. Students from the Department of Police Sciences and the Department of Criminology participated in the activities and benefited from the programme.
