HTTP නැත්නම් Hypertext Transfer Protocol කියන්නෙ දත්ත හුවමාරු කර ගැනීම මඟින් Servers සමඟ සන්නිවේදනය කිරීමට ඔබේ වෙබ් බ්‍රව්සරයට (Chrome, Firefox, Safari වැනි) ඉඩ සලසන මාධ්‍ය‍යක්. එමඟින් ඔබට වෙබ් පිටු බැලීමට, තොරතුරු යැවීමට සහ වෙබ් අඩවි සමඟ අන්තර් ක්‍රියා කිරීමට පුළුවන්.

HTTPS කියන්නෙ එහි බහු වචනය නෙවෙයි. එහි තේරුම Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure යන්නයි. එය HTTP හි ආරක්‍ෂිත හා වැඩිදියුණු කළ Version එකක් වගෙයි. එය ඔබේ වෙබ් බ්‍රව්සරය සහ Server එක අතර හුවමාරු වන දත්ත සංකේතනය (encryption) කිරීමට Transport Layer Security (TLS) නම් අමතර ආරක්‍ෂික ස්ථරයක් භාවිත කරනවා. මෙලෙස Encrypt කිරීම මඟින් HTTP වෙබ් අඩවි හා සසඳන විට HTTPS වෙබ් අඩවිය වඩාත් ආරක්‍ෂිත බවට පත් කරනවා. ඒ නිසා ම හැකර්වරුන්ගෙන් තිබෙන අවදානම ද අඩු කරනවා.
