While we have chosen to focus on the issue of captive elephants, that does not mean we don't care about other animals. We are Sri Lankans who are deeply concerned about the centuries of abuse we have put elephants through in relation to culture, religion and ultimately exploiting wild animals for money-making. We are also Buddhists. We believe that to be truly concerned for the life and well-being

Raja and so many other elephants in Sri Lanka and India and other Asian countries have lived their entire lives in captivity. An entire life with chains on their legs and forced to wear ridiculous costumes to entertain humans and then called "Sacred." Raja, we as humans failed you. May you rest in peace. If animals are to be treated as "sacred" treat them ethically - Don't chain them for the rest of their lives. Don't imprison them in a temple. Don't bu****it with people saying "the elephant loves being paraded in festivals." Stop lying. Evolve! Stop this madness of imprisoning our elephants and let them live their natural habitat in freedom where they can live up to 80 years of age. COMMIT TO PROTECTING OUR NATIONAL PARKS SO THAT ELEPHANTS ARE SAFE FROM HUMANS, RELIGION AND "SANSKRUTIYA."

Watch the brutal treatment of captive elephants in Sri Lanka. Please speak up when you see this kind of treatment. NEVER give your money to do anything related to captive elephants including rides, taking photos with them, visiting temples that enslave elephants (including the Kandy Temple of the Tooth), so called sanctuaries that still keep elephants in chains and festivals and parades that use elephants as their stupid props. https://fb.watch/bvkCX3xpvX/

A lot of tourists are returning. This is a good thing. But we need to start educating them again and again that elephants rides are NOT ethical. True elephant sanctuaries can raise money for their elephants in better ways than offering rides. Attila and Zae we are happy you are enjoying Sri Lanka, but please learn about the unethical practices of elephant captivity.
