A GREAT EVENING WITH OUR FRIENDS OF FATHIH ACADEMY!

We at the Centre for Islamic Studies Harmony Center had a visit by the senior students of Fathih Academy, Thihariya, one of the Islamic seminaries that provide us with Mosque Tour Guides and Calligraphy Artists.

Senior Director, CIS, Sheikh Abdullah Mohideen and Asiff Hussein, VP Outreach, CIS Harmony Center were only too glad to welcome our friends led by their Ustad, Brother Fayaz, and after a very cordial meeting and briefing about our outreach work, they pledged their support in our future endeavours and especially our Mosque Tours.

These young men are shortly about to graduate and we wish them all the best and pray that Almighty Allah be with them all the way.

The collage below is of this evening's meeting and shared by Brother Munzeef who attended the meeting and is one of our Senior Calligraphy Artists.

CIS HARMONY CENTER AT THE HELM OF A NEW SPIRITUAL AND CULTURAL EXPERIENCE!

Dear friends.

Sharing some scenes from the final Day of the "Salam Ramadan" 2025 event held at Green Path, Colombo 7 where we had many more visitors visiting our Harmony Center stall.

The 3-day event from 21st to 23rd March had visitors from all faiths visiting the main “Salam Ramadan” venue at Green Path to enjoy traditional Muslim foods from all major Muslim communities of Sri Lanka and learn more about Islamic faith and culture through stalls run by CIS Harmony Center, Halal Accreditation Council and Noorani Calligraphy.

The event which had its humble origins in a concept paper the Vice President of Outreach, Centre for Islamic Studies Harmony Center had been circulating among the local Muslim business community to make the Ramadan season a more memorable one received a rather lukewarm response due to the community’s reticent and conservative attitude until it was taken up by Hanif Yusoof, Governor of the Western Province who visualized it as a truly national event that could take place under state patronage. This was all the more easier by the fact that we now have a very Muslim-friendly government in power, all in Allah's Good Time.

Before long a special Ramadan Task Force was appointed by the Governor under Rizan Naseer as Chairman and Aman Ashraff as the deputy and the main livewire of the initiative to spearhead the program which met with an immense response by big businesses and the hospitality and hotel trade which came in as sponsors and supported it in many other ways.

Now that we have more or less created a culture of being more open with regard to our festive season with a proud display of local Muslim culture, brightly lit streets and public spaces etc, let us hope and pray that Ramadan will continue to be a truly inclusive and national event much like Vesak or Christmas.

Asiff Hussein, VP Outreach, CIS Harmony Center thanked all those who ensured the successful completion of this first-of-a-kind Muslim cultural renaissance in Sri Lanka, including Governor Hanif Yusoof for championing the idea and appointing the right team to take it forward, the Ramadan Task Force headed by Rizan Naseer and Aman Ashraff and all those sponsors and well wishers who supported the initiative.

He also mentioned a special word of thanks to the team of Mosque Tour Guides and Calligraphists who worked tirelessly to ensure our stall successfully completed its mission of reaching out to people of other faiths, educating our own community with regard to our huge cultural contribution to our country and winning hearts through cultural features such as the poster walkthrough, calligraphy corner and headdress corner among other things.

He especially thanked Mohamed Fawaz, Chief Mosque Tour Guide for tirelessly working for three full days to ensure the program was a success, Senior Mosque Tour Guide and Member of our core team Mohamed Munzeer and the rest of our team of Mosque Tour Guides who volunteered for the event including Shifan Refai, Fazil Nassar, Mohamed Hasny, the Sheikhs Ashraff Munas and Amaan Ifthaz, Sisters Nushka, Fasrath and Shakeela Hasna and our very hardworking team of calligraphists Ashfaq Marzook and Ashham.

Last but certainly not least he thanked oour friends from the Colombo University Ahamed Arshad and Mohamed Nafrees, the last of whom single-handedly designed the colourful lit-up arch of our stall in a very short time, and sister Zahra Hani for her social media promotion of the event.
