British Colombia becomes the latest Canadian province to start issuing the much anticipated Provincial Attestation Letters which is mandatory for students not meeting exemptions and are submitting their study permit applications after the given deadline of January 22, 2024.
However allocations would be more favourable to public funded institutions than private institutions to support future growth and this will also impact the number of new study permit applications allocated to the province for 2024 compared to 2023.

The planned opening of Canadian borders for international travellers from September 09 is great news for non essential visa holders and travellers who have been looking forward to enter the country.
As international students and their families are allowed to enter the country subject to adhering the current quarantine guidelines, their processes would be made simpler subject to obtaining fully vaccinated status.

A group of New York institutions recently submitted a written request for the US government to restart processing F-1 visa's in their consulates around the world and look into the possibilities of waiving the student visa interviews or switch to online interviews.
The limited or slowed down processing of F-1 visa is currently impacting many institutions financially resulting in millions of lost revenue which is predicted to worsen if the situation does not improve in the near future.
While other study destinations such as UK and Canada have opened up for students with health regulations, the US is still behind schedule which is impacting some of its biggest markets such as India and China.

Give students visa appointments and interview waivers, urge US institutions
New York State higher education institutions have written to the US government urging it to open consulates for F-1 student visa processing and allow officers to either waive in-person interview requirements or allow online interviews.

A silver lining shines upon USA, the country holding the largest international student population in the world, which had a huge impact in its international education sector due to its prevailed political atmosphere and the pandemic but now on the road to recovery under a new administration.
International students have been informed that based on the new US Citizenship Act of 2021, a student applying under the F1 visa category, "A student is not going to have to show that they have property in their home country to demonstrate evidence that they plan to return.”
Another proposal for students with PhD in a STEM to secure residency through a new green card programme is also under consideration and both decisions is considered to be well accepted by potential students who are currently studying or looking to study in the future.
