A 2018 study found that people with major depressive disorder (MDD) are biologically older than people without depression, on average by 8 months. In severe cases, the biological age can be 10β15 years older than chronological age. The study also found that people who have experienced childhood trauma are biologically older than people who have not, by an average of 1.06 years. Therefore, childhood trauma aggravates this effect even more.
The study also found that people with MDD have a degree of methylation and epigenetic change that is indicative of an older age. Lab tests showed that cells looked biologically older in people who were severely depressed or who had been in the past.

Hikikomori (Japanese: γ²γγγγ or εΌγγγγ, lit. "pulling inward, being confined"), also known as severe social withdrawal, is a condition that describes a person who is socially avoidant to the point of staying isolated at home for at least six months without social interaction. The term can also refer to the person who is experiencing this condition. Hikikomori is characterized by adolescents and young adults who become recluses in their parents' homes, unable to work or go to school for months or years.
Hikikomori has been described in Japan for the past two decades and has created a generation of recluses. Research suggests that over three quarters of those with Hikikomori consume high levels of sweets and sweet snacks. These foods may not be problematic if eaten in moderation as part of a balanced diet, but when consumed in high volumes on a regular basis they can contribute to reduced overall health.
The phenomenon is primarily recognized in Japan, although similar concepts exist in other languages and cultures, especially South Korea.
Treatment strategies are varied and lack a solid evidence basis, but often include milieu, family, and exposure therapy.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is common in children with blindness. Differentiating between autistic-like features related to blindness and autistic features can be very difficult. This requires clinical experience of children with blindness and their typical development, as well as properly adapted assessment tools.
According to research, autism is at least 10 times as common among blind people than among the general population. Children with autism may also be more likely to have vision problems than children who are not autistic.
Some researchers argue that the link is unacceptable and that autism-like behaviors in blind people is as a result from their lack of sight, not autism. Likewise, vision issues in autistic people could reflect differences in the brain that accompany autism, not particularly problems in the vision.
