Shedding light on the vital role of remedial math support in Sri Lanka.

In Sri Lanka's educational landscape, educators face the challenge of large classroom sizes, making personalised attention difficult. However, remedial math support, inspired by the Response to Intervention (RTI) framework, offers hope.

1) Early Intervention: Remedial math support focuses on early identification and intervention. By leveraging diagnostic assessments and progress monitoring, educators can identify struggling students early on and provide targeted interventions to prevent academic challenges from escalating.

2) Building Confidence and Resilience: Beyond addressing academic difficulties, remedial math support plays a crucial role in building confidence and resilience among students. Experiencing success in mathematics instills a belief in their abilities and empowers them to embrace challenges with confidence.

3)Shifting Attitudes: The first step in transforming remedial math education is to shift attitudes towards teaching the subject. It's essential for educators to recognise that remedial teaching requires a deep understanding of students' individual learning needs and challenges. Rather than viewing remedial education as a lesser form of teaching, educators should embrace it as an opportunity to make a profound impact on students' lives.

As educators, policymakers, and advocates, it's our collective responsibility to champion the cause of remedial education in Sri Lanka. By prioritising early intervention and targeted support, we can unlock the potential of every student and ensure they have the tools they need to succeed in mathematics and beyond.
