Tribut to the two international NGO's who funded the entire project of this Boossa School playground. Although it belongs to the school, it also is vastly patronised by the village to stage musical shows, Avurudu celebrations, foot ball matches in addition to school functions.
Our sincere appreciation to the chairpersons of the foundations, and the people of the two respective nations for this precious gift to the people of Boossa, which will be a lasting contribution for the generations to come.

A Nobel gesture indeed during tougher economic times in Sri Lanka.
Mr. Kushil Gunasekera, Chairman of Foundation of Goodness@ Hikkaduwa initiating an islandwide program to distribute food parcels valued at Rs 5000/- to needy segment of the children.
Boossa School today, was the beneficiary as every child recieved this generous gift at a simple ceremony.

Remembering the founder philanthropist, D.N.D.S Senevirathna of Boossa Maha Vidyalaya in 1906. The first school of mix gender in the area, was fully sponsored by him till the national education policy allowed it to come under the Government.

Post pandemic news.
Smaller schools of less than 200 are to open soon....
This brought back the memories of post Tsunami construction of the school, which was built by a philanthropist, D.N. Senevirathna of Boossa in 1906, for mix gender education, which was not common at the time.
During the ferocious Tsunami of 2004, the school survived the direct impact as it was on very high grounds, but what it did not was the impact caused by temporary residences of the displaced families.
Roofs, library’s, desks, chairs, electrical supplies, home were badly affected. The school did not even have running water for the children.
A random visit to the school, opened up a conversation with the then school Principal, who stretched the need to support the school.
That prompted me to contact the many Foreign NGO's. First was PROJECT GALLE 05, formed mostly by then the British expat community in and around Galle.
Later on, A Netherlands 🇳🇱 based NGO, Carelanka stepped in generously to contribute to the welfare of the children by providing a mid day meal which continues to this day, in addition to providing computers, TV's and many more equipment.
The school play ground was completely rehabilated by Rosie May Foundation of UK 🇬🇧
Thus began an unprecedented rehabilitation, and even today it continues with Care Lanka Netherlands.
My sincere gratitude to all the NGO's and numerous foreign volunteers 🙋‍♀️ who helped Boossa School, which was largely neglected pre Tsunami.
Facilities provided by them and even the funding for private tuition helped the school to lead a student to University for the first time in 3 decades..

Closes, opens,closes,open, closes, open and now closes for Holidays 😄

Established in 1906 by a well known philanthropist, Boosa school currently has 150 students of mix gender, from ages 6 to 17.

Our sincere gratitude and warmest thoughts to Gerard de Jong of Carelanka Foundation of the Netherlands 🇳🇱 for continuing the children's
meal program, when the government sponsored initiative has completely ceased. It is heartening to note that the children are enjoying the food as their low income families are struggling to meet the needs due to pandemic curtailed income.
