Faculty of Applied Sciences of Uva Wellassa University

Ms. S.D.H.S. Wickramarathne, who served as a Senior Lecturer (Grade I) and as the Head of the Department of Computer Science and Informatics (CSI) at Faculty of Applied Sciences Uva Wellassa University, has obtained study leave to pursue her PhD studies at University of Innsbruck, Austria.

Ms. Wickramarathne joined the CSI Department in 2011 and has since been an exceptional academic, making significant contributions to the growth and development of the department. Over the years, she has shown excellence in teaching, research, and academic mentorship, inspiring and guiding numerous students in their academic and professional journeys.

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she has taken on several important academic and administrative roles within the department. She was first appointed as the Head of the Department in 2020, and her second term commenced in 2023. During her tenure as Head, she worked tirelessly to uplift the department in numerous ways. Her leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment have played a major role in shaping the department’s progress and achievements.

As she embarks on this new chapter of her academic journey, we extend our sincere gratitude for her invaluable service and dedication. We wish her every success in her PhD studies and all her future endeavours.

🎉 Uva Wellassa University Celebrates a Distinguished National and Academic Achievement 🎉
Uva Wellassa University is proud to announce that Prof. Amila Sandaruwan Ratnayake has been awarded the Young Scientist Award for Research – 2025 by the National Science and Technology Commission (NASTEC) of Sri Lanka.
This prestigious national accolade was conferred following a comprehensive and competitive evaluation of performance across four key domains:
(i) Research and Development,
(ii) Science Communication and Outreach,
(iii) National Service, and
(iv) International Service.
The award recognizes Prof. Ratnayake’s sustained and impactful contributions to scientific research, effective communication of science to wider society, service to national development initiatives, and active engagement within the international academic and scientific community.
Further highlighting his leadership and scholarly standing, Prof. Ratnayake was also invited to deliver a keynote address at the 14th Young Scientists Forum (YSF) Research Symposium – 2026. His keynote, titled “Earth Science for a Changing Planet: Lessons from a Young Scientist’s Journey,” inspired emerging researchers by sharing insights from his academic journey and emphasizing the critical role of earth sciences in addressing contemporary global challenges.
