First-generation computers (late 1940s to early 1950s) used vacuum tubes as their primary electronic components. They were large, slow, and consumed a lot of power. Memory was limited and programming was complex. They were mainly used for scientific and military purposes and included computers like ENIAC and UNIVAC I.
