A Global Achievement for RHU!
Rafik Hariri University proudly celebrates the outstanding achievement of Mounir El Ashi Shbib, who represented both RHU and Lebanon at the Adobe Certified Professional World Championship, held in California, USA, from July 26–29, alongside 60 finalists from 38 countries. Mounir earned an impressive 8th place worldwide, competing against some of the world's most talented young designers under the supervision and guidance of Ms. Serene Srouji, Chair of the Graphic Design Department, who also served as his Supervisor and Chaperone throughout the championship. As part of the competition, finalists were challenged to design a professional poster and marketing campaign for the upcoming Netflix series My Life is Worth Living—a powerful series that highlights teen mental health through stories of resilience, hope, and the importance of seeking support. Participants demonstrated their creativity and technical expertise using Adobe Creative Cloud to transform these meaningful themes into impactful visual communication. This remarkable achievement reflects RHU's unwavering commitment to academic excellence, creativity, and preparing students to compete on the global stage.

Another Global Achievement for RHU!
Rafik Hariri University proudly celebrates the outstanding achievement of our Biomedical Engineering students Leen Mohamad, Jihad Safadi, and Amal Mzyan, whose project, NeoGard AI: Intelligent Incubator for Apnea Prediction and CPAP Calling, has advanced to the Global Finals of the 9th Global Competition on Design for Future Education. Using Artificial Intelligence to predict apnea episodes in premature infants and support timely clinical intervention, NeoGard AI showcases how innovation can transform neonatal healthcare. After competing against 32 teams from more than 50 prestigious universities worldwide in the Regional Finals, the team earned a place among the Top 18 projects advancing to the Global Finals. Congratulations to our students on this remarkable achievement! We wish them the very best as they represent Rafik Hariri University this October at Beijing Normal University, China.

RHU proudly celebrates the outstanding academic achievement of Civil Engineering alumnus Ahmad Shawki Charkieh, Class of 2020, who successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation on Monday, July 6, 2026, and earned the degree of Doctor of Engineering Sciences with the greatest distinction from Vrije Universiteit Brussel. His doctoral research, titled “Study of the Mechanical Performance of Fibre-Reinforced Polymer Matrix Composites Produced Using 3D-Printing Techniques,” focused on advancing the development of smart, sustainable, and high-performance composite materials. The research introduces a comprehensive framework that combines the upcycling of plastic waste into advanced composites, the design of architected structures, and the integration of intelligent structural health monitoring systems. These contributions support the development of more resilient, sustainable, and innovative engineering solutions. Dr. Sharkieh's accomplishment reflects the excellence of RHU graduates and their continued contributions to advancing knowledge, innovation, and engineering solutions on a global scale.

Step beyond the classroom and into history.

On Thursday, July 9, 2026, forty students from RHU's HIST480VI: Special Topics in History – The Levant from Neolithic to Roman and CVLN302: Civilization Studies II stepped beyond the classroom and into the pages of history during an educational field trip led by Assistant Professor Farid Khoury to the National Museum of Beirut and the ancient city of Byblos. Designed to complement the courses' classroom discussions, the visit gave students the rare opportunity to stand face-to-face with archaeological discoveries and historical landmarks they had previously encountered only in lectures, allowing them to experience history as a tangible reality rather than words in a textbook. Through guided discussions and firsthand observation, students gained a deeper appreciation of Lebanon's rich cultural heritage and the remarkable civilizations that have shaped the region over thousands of years. The experience reflected RHU's commitment to experiential learning, encouraging students to explore, question, and connect with the past in meaningful and lasting ways.

Students from the Graphic Design Program at Rafik Hariri University, accompanied by Ms. Serene Srouji, Chair of the Graphic Design Department and Consultant to the Lebanese Graphic Design Syndicate, participated in the specialized workshop, Artificial Intelligence in Graphic Design at BDD on Saturday, July 11, 2026. Held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Kamal Shehadi, Minister of Technology and Artificial Intelligence, the workshop explored how AI is transforming the creative industry, empowering designers with new tools to enhance creativity, streamline workflows, and push the boundaries of innovation. Through inspiring sessions and interactions with leading industry experts, our students gained valuable knowledge and practical insights that will help shape the next generation of creative professionals.
