Introducing our upcoming workshop for the week of July 11th to 15th!
Have you ever built a catapult before? Have you ever shot a blow-dart? Have you ever launched a tennis ball 100 feet in the air, powered only by hairspray? We will be doing all these things and more at the Applied Sciences Workshop. If you’re never made a handheld crossbow before, this workshop is for you!
We will be exploring the Physics and Chemistry concepts behind Ancient weaponry. In order to do this, we will build model weapons for four days. On the fifth day, we will go to the mountains to launch them, practice our accuracy, and compete for distance! We will build three big models, and a few smaller ones you can take home.
(Don't worry mothers - there will be adult supervision and the highest regard for safety)
For rising 8th to 11th grade boys - participation is limited to 6 for maximum individualized attention.
Contact Elizabeth Grissom, the workshop supervisor, at 71-332-411 for more information.

Hello gentlemen,

My name is Farouk Grissom, and I am a recent graduate of the IB program at the International College of Beirut. After a much anticipated gap year I plan to study engineering, which will fulfill a lifelong passion for creating things.

Needless to say, LEGOs were a big part of my childhood, until I progressed to building small weapons (non-lethal, fear not mothers) out of popsicle sticks, pens, and rubber bands. I have since then discovered Arduino, built two desks, designed a loft, and built and launched a potato cannon.

Somewhere along the way I picked up the necessary skills of juggling, solving rubik’s cubes, and scuba diving, and I enjoy reading a good book just as much as I do holding an interesting discussion.

I cannot yet boast of all the skills I dream of - though I strive everyday to meet the standards required of an extraordinary gentleman. Passion, courage, discipline: these are standards I wish all young men would uphold, and ones I wish I could have aspired to more when I was younger.

I, too, am very excited to be at the forefront of LXG alongside Brandon. For our aspiring young gentlemen, we hope to light a fire within you to rise to any challenge, as long as you’re not afraid of… well, as long as you’re not afraid.

Greetings future campers! Or should I say, extraordinary gentlemen!

My name is Brandon Hills. I grew up in Atlanta Georgia, but I've spent the last year living in Amman, Jordan. I graduated from high school last year, and in August I will begin studying at Harvard University where I plan to concentrate on Economics or Physics.

Academically, I'm a Math and Physics nerd. So if you're interested in talking about Black Holes or the Theory of Special Relativity, give me a call!
Exercise-wise, I love to run and hike. I'm also a huge proponent of the pull-up bar, so be prepared to get sweaty!
Musically, I enjoy playing guitar and singing, on occasion composing a song or two.

I'm super excited about leading LXG with Farouk. We're going to do some awesome things! Science experiments that will blow your mind, exercises that will burden your body, and intriguing tricks that will impress your friends. But most importantly, we will explore what it takes to be a truly extraordinary man in the 21st Century.

I hope to see you on the LXG roster! Just know that if you sign up, you've got to be ready to get your hands dirty.

The Pledge for Extraordinary Gentlemen

On my honor, I will do my best to perform my duties to my family, friends, and community. I will persevere through obstacles that would take down most men. I will do my utmost to keep myself physically strong, mentally sharp, and morally just. I will fight for the underdog, serve the weak, stand up for the oppressed, and I will do so with my whole heart. I will do what is good, what is right, especially when it hurts. I will strive to emulate the virtues of an extraordinary gentleman.
