Society of Architecture and Design - PU

We’re pleased to announce that George Arbid will be our first Spring 2025 guest speaker on Thursday, February 26 at 12:15 PM in the Smart Room.

A specialist in modern architecture in Lebanon and the Arab world, Dr. Arbid has authored and co-edited major works, including Architecture from the Arab World (1914–2014) presented at the Venice Biennale of Architecture and Designing Modernity: Architecture in the Arab World 1945–1973. He is also co-founder and director of the Arab Center for Architecture and curated an exhibition for the Sharjah Architecture Triennial in 2023.

In this lecture, he will discuss modern and contemporary architecture in the Arab world and the ideas shaping the region’s built environment. Students, faculty, and leadership are warmly invited to attend.

We are pleased to announce that our society will host as our next guest speaker on Wednesday, December 17, at 12:15 P.M., in The General’s Smart Hall.

Joseph El Hourany is an architect, urban planner, philosopher, and artist whose work spans architecture, urbanism, sculpture, and drawing. In his lecture on Architectural Principles in the Age of Parametricism, he will share insights from his research and artistic practice, offering perspectives on contemporary architectural thought.

We warmly invite the students and faculty to attend this intellectually engaging session.

We had the privilege of welcoming Makram El-Kadi, co-founder of L.E.F.T Architects, to share his design methodology with our students.

Makram discussed LEFTISH’s projects, revealing how concepts evolve from ideas to built form through narrative, critique, and experimentation. His lecture highlighted the integration of creativity and context-driven solutions in architectural practice.

We thank Makram for offering an insightful look into professional design processes and inspiring future architects.

We were honored to host Abir Saksouk, architect and urban researcher, at our university.

Abir presented the ongoing work of Public Works Studio, focusing on mapping initiatives in Lebanon’s south following recent conflicts. Her lecture demonstrated how critical mapping translates lived experiences into evidence, supports advocacy, and promotes equitable access to public space.

We thank Abir for sharing her expertise and inspiring our community with her approach to spatial justice.

The Architecture Society at PU is delighted to celebrate the achievement of our talented alumna, Maya Haidar, who continues to make us proud. After completing her studies at PU, Maya is now pursuing her Master’s degree at AUB, showcasing the drive and excellence that define our community.
