The Shed Vientiane is a community based workshop where children and adults create and build with wood. Allan Gooding (Mr Al) is an experienced cabinet maker.

We employ people who are hearing-impaired, nurture skills and creativity, and make wooden toys that inspire play. He has worked on super yachts, built designer kitchens and custom-made furniture. Al is also a New Zealand trained primary teacher and brings his experience and skills together to inspire and empower others.

Over the past years I have had the privilege of connecting and helping in different ways with the Lao Conservation Trust for Wildlife (LCTW). https://www.facebook.com/lctwildlife
Just lately a family has donated the sessions their child attends to the construction of a rescue box for pangolins!
Here is the box the child made and
The Shed team delivering it. A big thank you to the family for their generosity!
When we delivered the box the LCTW had just rescued 4 pangolins! They were amazing to see and also to see the care being shown to the pangolins by the staff!
The final photo is the box in action with the LCTW team on a pangolin rescue!!
Also, if you haven't been to the new LCTW site, I would highly recommend a trip out to see this amazing project that cares for and protects wildlife in Laos!
Thanks!

This year it was great to connect again with Bridge the Gap and to donate some of our toys to the children as they are here in Vientiane awaiting surgery.
Bridge the gap is an amazing project. Life changing for these children! It is thanks to the amazing doctors who offer their services for free and the great team of people that make it happen.
Thank you!

Hi there. So for the last couple of weeks Thavone and Somvang have been training for the 4th National Paralymic Games held here in Vientiane. It was such an honor to go to watch them compete and to see all of the other amazing atheletes there. The great support everyone gave to the atheletes as they competed was truly heart warming. An amazing event with amazing and inspiring people.

I would like to say a big thanks to Senglao for the amazing Christmas market they put on and the great opportunity to be a part of it. Also a big thank you to all who came along and supported The Shed through buying a toy or two. It was a great time to connect with people and learn about different organizations who are here supporting and giving back to the Lao people.
Thank you!

Hi everyone.
Sorry not so many posts lately. Thavone, KK and Somvang have been working for the last month or so on our wooden toys! They have done a great job and kept our products to a high standard!

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to give an update on one of my new workers Somvang. He is 22 years old and is nearly 2 months into his first job, here at The Shed. He is giving everything a go! It is great to see him working alongside my other workers. This also gives my more experienced workers an opportunity to impart what they have learned at The Shed, onto Somvang. And the apprenticeship begins!

I am honored and excited to be able to offer this opportunity to these great young guys!

Here is another great project using various woodwork processes, tools, and machines. These are initial photos of a client preparing the timber to glue up legs and the base support for a woodwork bench.

Hi everyone!
I would like to introduce a couple of new workers. Somvang (on the right) who is full-time and Mike, who is part-time.
This is Somvang's first job, and he is doing well!
Mike is actually my Lao sign language teacher, and he already has skills in woodwork!
It is an honor to have these two guys working for me and to further support people who are hearing impaired!
Thank you again, also for all of your support. Whether you come to The Shed to build or catch up here on FB, it's all supportive and helpful towards what we are trying to achieve.
Thank you!

A couple of months ago, my workers made another unit for the Hands of Hope School for hearing impaired children.
This highlights some of the cabinet making skills my workers have gained while working at The Shed. It is exciting to see their woodwork skills growing!
Its great to be able to support Hands of Hope in this small way and to donate this cabinet for their classroom use!
