Beyond finding meanings—today, our students learned to speak with precision. 📖🗣️
One of the most valuable skills in language learning is knowing how to use a dictionary effectively. Today's challenge went beyond looking up vocabulary. Within 5 minutes, students had to find four words and accurately write their International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) transcriptions. The fastest student who completed the task correctly earned a perfect score. 🏆
Learning the IPA helps students pronounce words correctly, build confidence in speaking, and become independent learners. Instead of relying on others to tell them how a word sounds, they now have the skills to discover the correct pronunciation on their own.
Activities like this strengthen research skills, improve vocabulary, sharpen attention to detail, and encourage healthy competition in the classroom. Speed is important, but accuracy is what truly makes a great language learner.
Every page they turn in the dictionary is another step toward becoming confident English communicators.
