[Observe and ask questions “…The first step in innovation is a leader’s insight]
Currently, Shutterstock has a corporate value of $ 1.43 billion, a Snap of $ 15 billion, an Airbnb of $ 35 billion, and a Square of $ 28.65 billion. What these companies have in common is that there is a founder or co-founder who has a background in art or design.

Traditional companies are now embracing the artist mindset. Unilever launched the excellent educational program Catalyst, introduced in the late 1990s. At the time, Unilever wanted to increase the entrepreneurial spirit and creativity of its employees as market share declined. Thus, Unilever introduced an art-based program that combines the art world with the company. Catalyst used visual arts, poetry, photography, play, jazz, and other works of art to develop thinking and behavior that apply to a variety of business issues.

There is another important lesson about art. It is defined as a way of thinking rather than a painting or sculpture. In a rapidly changing era, new thinking should be adopted. This will hasten us to use the fundamental innovation tools we can use. But this is only possible when we connect people to a new mind set. This is the true value of the artist mindset.

현재 셔터스톡(Shutterstock)의 기업가치는 14억3000만달러이고, 스냅(Snap)은 150억달러, 에어비앤비는 350억달러, 스퀘어(Square)는 286억5000만달러다. 이 회사들의 공통점은 각각 예술이나 디자인 같은 창의적인 배경을 가진 창업가 또는 공동창업가가 존재한다는 점이다.

전통적인 기업들도 이제는 예술가적 마인드셋을 더욱 포용하고 있다. 유니레버 영국지사는 1990년대 말 도입된 훌륭한 교육 프로그램 `캐털리스트(Catalyst)`를 시작했다. 당시 유니레버 영국지사는 시장점유율이 감소함에 따라 직원들의 기업가정신과 창의성을 높이고자 했다. 따라서 유니레버 영국지사는 예술 세계를 회사에 접목한 것 같은 예술 기반 프로그램을 도입했다. `Catalyst`는 시각 예술, 시, 사진, 희곡, 재즈 및 기타 예술 작품을 사용해 다양한 비즈니스 문제에 적용되는 사고방식과 행동을 길렀다.

예술에 관해 또 다른 중요한 교훈이 있다. 이는 그림이나 조각 같은 작품으로 정의되기보다는 `생각하는 방식`으로 정의된다.
급변하는 시대에는 새로운 사고방식을 채택해야 한다. 이를 통해 우리가 쓸 수 있는 근본적인 혁신도구를 사용하기 위해 서두르게 될 것이다. 그러나 이는 어디까지나 우리가 사람들을 새로운 마인드셋에 연결할 때만 가능하다. 이게 바로 예술가적 마인드셋의 진정한 가치다.

[BuiltTech: A New Program for Executives Designed by IE A&D]
The focus of the program is on leadership in the digital transformation of the construction, architecture and engineering industries, while covering a large spectrum of topics from the analysis to the design of a roadmap for each participant. The program will also contain a review of the fundamental concepts of digitalization seen in other industries and a session to analyze the success stories in leading companies of said industries will also take place.
