Lebbeus Woods, a true visionary architect and astonishing draftsman, died this morning. A great loss... Here's an image of an installation he did at SCI-Arc in 2003, with help from 15 students. Over one night, the installation's 1400 steel rods were 'planted' in holes drilled in the concrete floor in locations chosen by students, creating a shifting field of varying spatial conditions, densities and degrees of obstruction through the length of the building. http://www.archdaily.com/288469/lebbeus-woods-experimental-architect-dies/

From the very beginning of the surrealist movement, drawing was a central medium for its practitioners. Surrealists employed techniques such as automatic drawing, the exquisite co**se, and frottage as artistic means to tap into the subconscious realm. “Drawing Surrealism” is the first of its kind to focus on drawing as surrealist artists’ predominant means of innovation and expression. Featuring more than two hundred and fifty works by ninety artists from sixteen countries, “Drawing Surrealism” is an unprecedented investigation into the impact of surrealist drawing on a global scale. On view through January 6, 2013, in BCAM at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. http://www.lacma.org/art/exhibition/drawing-surrealism
