On Tuesday, 1st September 2026, Nevis welcomed 25 delegates of Taiwan's International Youth Ambassadors Exchange Program to our shores.

The day's activities commenced with a Breakfast Gathering hosted by Her Honour Deputy Governor General Mrs. Hyleeta Liburd, OBE, MH, and Mr. Elmo Liburd, MH, at Government House. In attendance were His Excellency Edward Tao, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), the Honourable Mark Brantley, Premier of Nevis, Ministers of Government in the Nevis Island Administration, school leaders, student ambassadors, and other specially invited guests.

The gathering featured a talent and cultural showcase presented by the Taiwanese students and concluded with a ceremonial exchange of gifts between Taiwan and Nevis.

Following the Breakfast Gathering, the Taiwanese students participated in a culturally immersive Passport Tour of Nevis, led by Nevis Sixth Form College student ambassadors. The tour culminated at the Malcolm Guishard Recreational Park (MGRP), where the students enjoyed lunch and participated in an interactive cultural exchange session. During the session, the visiting students shared aspects of Taiwan's history and culture, as well as their experiences studying in Taiwan.

The visting students were then treated to an impressive display of Nevisian talent and culture, including a performance by the Oualie Rhythms Steel Orchestra.

The Taiwanese students' visit to Nevis forms part of the International Youth Ambassadors Exchange Program launched by Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2009. The programme provides opportunities for Taiwanese youth to engage in international affairs, showcase their diverse talents, and share Taiwan's rich history and culture with audiences around the world.

The exchange comprises of youth ambassadors from universities across Taiwan and members of the Taiwan International Youth Ambassadors Association who travel to Taiwan's diplomatic allies and other friendly countries throughout the Asia-Pacific and Latin American regions to promote culture and build global connections.

We were honored to receive the Taiwanese Youth Ambassadors during their brief visit to Nevis and are equally proud of the diplomacy, charm, and professionalism demonstrated by our Nevis Sixth Form College student ambassadors throughout the exchange.

'Poised for Success: Reflect, Reimagine, Respond' was the theme aptly chosen for the 2026 Back-to-School Convocation, which signifies the start of the 2026–2027 academic year.

Today, 31 August 2026, Minister of Education et al., Hon. Troy Liburd, together with Ministry of Education officials, Department of Education officials and other government officials welcomed nearly 400 school leaders, teachers and support staff from across Nevis as they reported for duty and prepared to embark on another important school year.

The convocation provided an inspiring and spirited opportunity for members of the education community to reflect on lessons learned, reimagine possibilities, and respond purposefully to the evolving needs of our students and schools. Attendees were reminded that success in education requires a willingness to pause and reflect, the courage to envision new possibilities, and the commitment to respond with purpose.

As the week continues, staff will be engaged in team building and professional development sessions as well as classroom readiness activities as we prepare to welcome students on Monday 7th September, 2026

Together, the education community stands poised for success, ready to inspire and create meaningful opportunities for every learner in the year ahead.

Stay tuned for more exciting highlights from the 2026 Back to School Convocation.
