Play is one of the greatest developmental needs of early childhood, yet modern childhood is increasingly moving away from it.

Children today are spending less time in free play, outdoor play, risky play, imaginative play, and independent exploration, while simultaneously experiencing higher rates of anxiety, emotional dysregulation, attentional difficulties, and sedentary behavior.

This matters because play is not “extra.”
It is one of the primary ways the developing brain builds its architecture.

Through play, children strengthen executive functioning, emotional regulation, language, social cognition, creativity, problem-solving, resilience, body awareness, and nervous system integration.

Play helps children process experiences.
Play helps children regulate stress.
Play helps children build mastery through repetition.
Play helps children develop confidence, autonomy, and flexible thinking.

The research is clear: play is deeply tied to healthy cognitive, physical, emotional, and social development. And perhaps most importantly, children are biologically wired for it. 🧠

This is why understanding play matters.

Not just allowing it...

Protecting it. Facilitating it. Valuing it. Knowing when to step in, when to step back, and how to create environments where deep play can actually emerge. 🌻

Loose Parts & Open Ended Materials 🌱

In the Reggio Emilia approach you’ll often come across these phrases and they are something you’ll find throughout our early years centers at the Rainbow House. These materials are very different to the traditional toys you might see in many preschool classrooms.

When children are given the freedom to explore materials in their own way, they are able to use their imagination and creativity to explore and learn new skills. This also promotes problem- solving as children learn how to manipulate materials to achieve their desired outcome.

Whether outdoors or indoors, independently or collaboratively, loose-parts are an invaluable part of childhood! 🌻 🌈

Summer is fast approaching and it’s that time of year that you might be looking for something exciting and new for your little one ☀️

At the Rainbow House we’ll be running our fun-packed Summer Camp for 3 weeks from 29th June - 17th July.

What do you do when it’s the hot season and you spend most of your day outside? Lots and lots of water play of course! 🌊 ☀️ 🌈

Water play has so many benefits for little ones 🥰 it supports social, physical, creative and cognitive development as well as being a wonderful way to develop crucial confidence in water. 💪

Over the weekend, we had the pleasure of hosting a Coffee & Brunch morning for our Rainbow House families 🥰 it is so lovely to see both our Sen Sok and Boeung Trabek communities come together and to have the chance to make new family connections as well as catch up with old friends. We appreciate everyone for coming through and we had a wonderful time despite the rainy weather 🌧️ An extra special thank you to Don's Mumbai Chaat and Three Corner Coffee Roaster for the delicious coffees and food ❤️

What a magical start of the new year we’ve had at both The Rainbow House branches ✨ Smiles and laughter, friendship, play and exploration have filled our first few weeks of the school year as the children settle back into their routines and environment. Everyday brings something new 🥰

Our annual Summer Camp is BACK! 🥳🥰

Are you looking for something different for your child this summer? Would you like them to spend more time outside, socializing, getting messy and creative and making some fun summer memories?

Summer Camp @ The Rainbow House will run for 3 weeks from 30th June - 18th July at BOTH branches (Boeung Trabek & Sen Sok). Your child can join us for individual weeks or the full 3 week program with half day and full day options. Each week will be a new and exciting theme for your little explorer to discover ❤️🤸

A healthy, home- cooked lunch is offered as an additional option as well as early drop off and late pick up options.
