As Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf will speak to us this Sunday at BYU–Hawaii, I had a thought come to my mind. The question is: Do you think I am strengthening my testimony of the Savior? If I don’t consistently practice spiritual CPR—such as attending church regularly, praying often, or reading my scriptures—yet I say, “Oh, I’m so excited to hear from the LDS apostle this weekend.”

As I had this thought, I did some studying and reached out to my religion professor.

After my study, I came to understand that if I do not practice spiritual CPR consistently but am only excited to hear from the apostle, it merely maintains my testimony. However, if I consistently apply spiritual CPR and prepare myself to hear from the apostle or other Church leaders, it strengthens my testimony.

When I spoke with my professor, he compared it to snacking versus feasting. Your body needs food, and you can snack sometimes; however, you cannot eat only one meal a day and expect to have enough energy. You need good, healthy meals, and you can snack as well. It is similar to your testimony—feasting is like applying spiritual CPR, while snacking is like attending church activities, devotionals, or other events.

Last Sunday was one of the most meaningful Sundays before 2025 came to an end. After eight years, I was blessed to return home—to the place where I once served my mission in Sacramento, California.
