Cambodian youth leaders Haingveang Taing (SD11's Strategic Engagement and Regional Development Director and President of Future Climate Heroes) and Chansovichea Duch (SD11's Sustainable Urban Development and Design Director and President of Global Urban Horizon Hub) stepped onto the international platform at the World Cities Summit (WCS) 2026 in Singapore. Joining 110 global young change-makers, they brought Cambodian youth’s voice to critical conversations about building liveable, inclusive, and future-ready cities.

Here is a look at their inspiring two-day journey of networking, collaboration, and high-level strategy across Sentosa and Suntec in Singapore on 13th and 14th June 2026.

The journey began on the shores of Sentosa, where Haingveang and Chansovichea connected with fellow young urban pioneers and professionals from around the globe during the WCS Young Leaders site visit and networking reception.

"𝘉𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘚𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘰𝘴𝘢 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥 𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘴-𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴," shares Haingveang Taing. The day was dedicated to learning from field sites, sharing local realities, and laying the groundwork for the intensive strategy sessions to follow.

On the second day, the momentum shifted to the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre for the official WCS Young Leaders Symposium, centered around the urgent global theme: "𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬: 𝐀𝐂𝐓 𝐍𝐨𝐰!"

To maximize their impact and bring diverse insights back to Cambodia, the two leaders branched out into specialized high-level tracks:

𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐚 𝐃𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦: At this forum, Chansovichea listened directly with high-level governance discussions, witnessing how mayors and urban leaders from over 100 cities tackle policy frameworks, cross-border collaborations, and human-centric infrastructure design.

𝐇𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐯𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐮𝐦: This academic and research track focused heavily on data-driven "Responsive Cities." Haingveang explored advanced urban planning methodologies, predictive analytics, and smart technologies aimed at bridging digital divides and strengthening community resilience.

Following their specialized sessions, both leaders reunited at the Young Leaders Symposium to dive headfirst into deep-dive workshops tackling the dual forces of demographic and technological transitions (like rapid advancements in AI and infrastructure for aging populations).

They actively contributed to the hands-on “From Insights to Action” workshop, ensuring a vital Cambodian youth perspective was included in long-term global urban strategies.

They return home equipped with international insights, cutting-edge urban research, a powerful global network of peers, and a renewed commitment to shaping a liveable, sustainable, and forward-thinking future for Cambodia.

Connecting with fellow dynamic young leaders from across the globe, they explored deep-dive sustainability initiatives, from cutting-edge building design to advanced marine life care and water management operations.
