I received a phone call from the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, where we discuss the Cambodia-Thailand conflict, bilateral relations as well as global issues of mutual interest.
Regarding the tension at the Cambodia-Thailand border, I explained Malaysia's role in urging both countries to calm down and return to the negotiating table through dialogue as well as bilateral mechanism and ASEAN.
Malaysia remains ready to help efforts to alleviate the situation, protect the public and restore regional stability, in line with the spirit of ASEAN good neighbourhood.
As ASEAN Chairman, Malaysia will convene a Special Meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers in the near future to assess the situation and support the de-escalation measures.
I also express my appreciation for the active involvement of the United States with ASEAN and the confidence given to Malaysia as the Chairman of ASEAN 2025.
