Access to architectural knowledge in Cambodia can be limited. In response, a library dedicated to modern and contemporary architecture and urbanism has been established. It provides an open, non-institutional resource for students, emerging practitioners, researchers, and the wider public, extending learning beyond the boundaries of university curricula. Conceived as a place for communities, the library encourages exploration, reflection, and curiosity.

With a diverse collection of books and publications from local and international contributors, the library fosters independent learning and critical practice. Built through generosity and collaboration, it is more than a repository. It is a living platform for creativity, knowledge-sharing, and envisioning the future of Cambodia’s built environment.

We would like to thank everyone who generously contributed their books and resources.

Hopes and Dreams: Lok Ta Vann Molyvann's home.

A journey from admiration to restoration. Today we share the story of bringing Lok Ta's vision back to life - transforming this historic residence into a Brown Coffee shop and a living archive.

"This represents not just our past, but our future," says Hok Kang. "Our architectural heritage can be preserved while adapting for contemporary use.”

"I hope the house becomes a place where communities in architecture, art, and design can learn, share, and engage for a better future for our city," adds Pen Sereypagna, Director of New Khmerβ€”Architecture.

This restoration is our tribute to the master who shaped Cambodia's architectural identity - a collaboration committed to preserving what matters.

Roots + Revival: Exploring New Khmer Architecture β€” Raintree Cambodia The New Khmer Architecture of the 1960s was more than just aesthetics; it was architecture with a purpose, designed to physically and metaphorically shape a post-independence Cambodia. Much of this architectural legacy was lost to conflict and neglect. In this exhibition, we present ten key highligh

Join prominent voices in design on a dialogue on architecture in Cambodia, where the vernacular meets contemporary.

Meet our panel of local and international architects and designersβ€”representing UAD Architects, Hiroshima House Cambodia, Of Architecture, and the Chen Dam Daek (αž…αž·αž“αžŠαŸ†αžŠαŸ‚αž€) Project, as part of Southeast Asia Neighborhoods Network β€” who will share thoughtful reflections on shaping spaces for and with Cambodia's diverse communities.

Through case studies across residences, schools, community hubs, and spiritual spaces, this discussion will examine the challenges and responsibilities of designing architecture that resonates with cultural depth and community needs.

This dialogue is part of Modern Architecture: Echoes + Reflections, powered by Raintree in partnership with the The Vann Molyvann Project and New Khmer - Architecture (NK-A), and co-presented with The Gentry Hub.
