Distinguishing between Seborrheic Keratosis (a harmless growth) and Basal Cell Carcinoma (a common skin cancer) is vital. To the untrained eye, they can sometimes look like simple "moles" or "spots," but their characteristics are very different.
🐍 The Comparison Flow
START HERE
↓
SEBORRHEIC KERATOSIS (The "Barnacle")
* Status: Benign (Non-cancerous) ✅
* Look: Waxy, scaly, "stuck-on" appearance 🕯️
* Color: Tan, brown, or black 🟤
* Texture: Often crumbly or wart-like; feels like candle wax 🕯️
* Borders: Usually very distinct and round 🟢
↓
VS
↓
BASAL CELL CARCINOMA (BCC)
* Status: Malignant (Skin Cancer) ⚠️
* Look: Pearly, shiny, or "flesh-colored" bump 💎
* Signs: Tiny visible blood vessels (telangiectasia) or a central "crater" 🩸
* Behavior: A sore that won't heal; may bleed then crust over 🩹
* Edges: Often "rolled" or rounded borders ⭕

🎓 Student Memory Hack: The "WSP" Method
To differentiate them quickly in a clinical setting, remember WSP:
* W – Waxy & Wart-like (points to Seborrheic Keratosis).
* S – Shiny & Sore-like (points to Basal Cell).
* P – Pearly or Pink (classic Basal Cell appearance).
💡 Key Clinical Difference
* Seborrheic Keratosis looks like it was dropped onto the skin (you could almost peel it off).
* Basal Cell Carcinoma looks like it is growing out of the skin (it is rooted and often shiny).
⚕️ Medical Disclaimer: This is for educational purposes. Any new, changing, or bleeding skin lesion should be evaluated by a dermatologist with a dermatoscope for an accurate diagnosis.

DANDRUFF (Seborrheic Dermatitis)
* Cause: Fungus/Yeast (Malassezia) 🍄
* Look: Greasy, yellow, or white flakes 🍳
* Feel: Oily scalp, itchy but flat skin 🧴
* Range: Stays on the scalp/hairline 🛑
↓
VS
↓
PSORIASIS (Autoimmune)
* Cause: Hyperactive immune system 🛡️
* Look: Thick, "silvery" metallic scales 🥈
* Feel: Raised plaques, very itchy, may bleed 🩸
* Range: Creeps onto forehead, ears, or neck 🗺️

The standard landmarks used for Botulinum Toxin Type A (e.g., Botox, Dysport, Xeomin).
Full Face Injection Map 🗺️
1. Upper Face (The "Look of 3")
* Forehead (Frontalis): 4–6 points arranged in a horizontal row or "V" shape.
* Placement: Always at least 1.5–2 cm above the orbital rim to prevent brow drop.
* Frown Lines (Glabellar Complex): 5-point "V" pattern.
* 1 point in the procerus (center, bridge of nose).
* 2 points in each corrugator muscle (medial and lateral).
* Crow's Feet (Orbicularis Oculi): 3 points per side.
* Placement: Fan-shaped, roughly 1 cm lateral to the bony orbital rim.
2. Mid-Face & Perioral
* Bunny Lines (Nasalis): 1–2 points on each side of the upper nasal bridge.
* Lip Flip (Orbicularis Oris): 2–4 tiny superficial points along the vermillion border (Cupid's bow).
* Gummy Smile (LLSAN): 1 point on each side, roughly 1 cm lateral to the nostril (the "Yonsei point").
3. Lower Face & Jaw
* Mouth Corners (DAO): 1 point per side.
* Placement: Draw a line from the corner of the mouth to the jawline; the point is usually 1 cm lateral and 1 cm inferior to the oral commissure.
* Chin (Mentalis): 1–2 points in the center of the chin to stop "peach pit" dimpling.
* Masseters (Jaw Slimming): 3–5 points in a triangle pattern over the bulk of the muscle (near the jaw angle).
* Nefertiti Lift (Platysma): Multiple points along the jawline and down the vertical neck bands.
💉 Dosage & Depth Quick-Reference
| Zone | Est. Units (Total) | Dept |
| Glabella | 20 Units | Deep (Intramuscular) |
| Forehead | 10–20 Units | Intramuscular/Subcutaneous |
| Crow's Feet | 12 Units/side | Superficial (Subdermal) |
| Masseters | 20–30 Units/side | Very Deep |
| DAO (Mouth) | 2–4 Units/side | Superficial |
⚠️ Critical Clinical Landmarks
* The "No-Fly Zone": Avoid injecting within 1 cm of the bony orbit near the mid-pupillary line to prevent ptosis (eyelid droop).
* Modality: Upper face injections are generally deeper (intramuscular), while lower face/perioral injections are kept very superficial to avoid affecting deeper muscles used for eating and speaking.
🌟 Post-Botox Aftercare:
6 Essential Rules
To ensure the best results and keep your glow on track, follow these simple steps after your treatment:
* Keep Your Head Up: Stay upright for at least 4 hours. Avoid lying down or bending over to prevent the toxin from migrating to unwanted areas.
* Hands Off: Do NOT rub, massage, or apply firm pressure to the treated areas for 24 hours. Let the product settle exactly where it was placed.
* Skip the Gym: Avoid strenuous exercise and heavy lifting for 24 hours. Increased blood flow can move the Botox before it has fully bound to the muscle.
* Stay Cool: Avoid high-heat environments like saunas, hot tubs, or direct sun exposure for 24 hours. Heat can increase swelling and vasodilation.
* Clean Gently: You may wash your face, but use a gentle touch and cool water. Avoid facials, chemical peels, or microdermabrasion for at least 7 days.
* Be Patient: Remember, Botox is not instant! You will see the first signs of smoothing in 3–5 days, with the final, beautiful result appearing at 14 days.
