NOT YOUR REAL HUSBAND
Marriage is an institution ordained by God between man and woman. It is such a serious relationship that those who think of entering in it should think properly and make some serious decisions before making any move. Some have made shallow decisions that have ended up as regrets later in life. How would you feel if one day you realized that the partner you are living with is not your real husband and that your husband is somewhere else seeking after you?
This morning as I was meditating, I came across such a picture in 2 Samuel 3:14-16. The Bible say’s;

14 Then David sent messengers to Ish-bosheth, Saul’s son, saying, “Give me my wife Michal, for whom I paid the bridal price of a hundred foreskins of the Philistines.” 15 And Ish-bosheth sent and took her from her husband Paltiel the son of Laish. 16 But her husband went with her, weeping after her all the way to Bahurim. Then Abner said to him, “Go, return.” And he returned. (ESV)
What? Michal is King David’s wife residing with Mr. Paltiel? That is how it is! Going back to 1 Samuel 18:25-27, we see how King Saul as he was by then tried to eliminate David the upcoming King by asking for 100 foreskins of the Philistines as bride price for Michal his daughter. Although this endangered David’s life, his love for Michal was so strong that he went ahead to kill not 100 but 200 Philistines just to pay the set bride price for Michal. Later on, he fled from Saul the King to the wilderness and even into caves where he would spend part of his life away from his wife until King Saul’s death. This caused a separation between David and Michal his wife. This must be the time when Paltiel the son of Laish took charge. King David later claimed his wife by the hand of Abner via the command of Ish-bosheth who was Michal’s brother. It’s obvious that Mr. Paltiel who was now used to Michal thinking that she was now his wife would be shocked at this happenings and weep after Michal’s departure all the way until told to return.
This is the real picture of the love of Christ; King David is picture of Christ, Michal is picture of the Church, Abner is picture of the carriers of the true gospel mentioned as angels to the seven churches in the book of Revelation and unfortunately Paltiel is picture of Satan.
The similarities are;
1)David paid dowry of the 100 foreskins for Michal because of love, so did even more Jesus by paying the bride price of the church by His own blood on the cross at Calvary for love.
2)David the King was ready to receive his bride back although she had co-habited for long with another man just like Christ who was and is ready to receive us sinful men who served the devil or have served the devil for long.
3)David would love Michal with the same love as before. Christ promises to love us unconditionally and to be with us till the end of the age. Moreso, He won't remember our past sins.
It’s true that Satan just like Mr. Paltiel will follow after us weeping and claiming that we are his but it is also true that we are gone and no longer belong to him. He did even claim Joshua’s’ body but the angel rebuked him and commanded a change of the filthy garments. Our garments too are changed. We live by faith which is evident in our works which can’t save us but they are the fruits of our faith in the Lord. We were only residing in the devil’s camp but our citizenship is in the Lord and in Heaven. He will try to divert our attention and even call people’s attention to our past but thank God that our sins are no more deposited on our account but in Christ nailed on the Cross. The power of the Cross. Our past sins are separated from us as far as the horizon is from the earth. Don’t turn back. Let’s keep on keeping and walking. Sanctification is a process. Yield yourself to the process and God will be glorified in you. Shalom!
