THE NEW BEATITUDES
(with apologies to Jesus Christ)
“Blessed are the arrogant in spirit,
for they think the land is theirs.
4 [Blessed are they who shout and bluster,
for they think they are winning.
5 Blessed are those who blow up buildings,
for they will inherit the rubble.
6 Blessed are they who torture and inflict pain,
for they will take evil delight.
7 Blessed are the ruthless,
for they will be shown no mercy.
8 Blessed are the cruel of heart,
for they will see God’s wrath.
9 Blessed are the warmongers,
for they will be called offspring of Satan.
10 Blessed are they who persecute the righteous,]
for all who live by the sword die by the sword.
All of these are the self-deluded blessings of the wicked who think they are the blessed, superior ones. They will insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you because of Me, and your hold on the truth. But you who love Me with a whole heart, rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. For thus they deluded themselves in the past, and persecuted the prophets who were before you.
