A senior colleague asked a question that stayed with me:

“What do you do for a son you raised well, who has now become a drunkard in Nairobi?”

They shared how they have talked with him, prayed with him, walked the journey with his mother… yet nothing seems to change.

It made me reflect on something many of us quietly know but rarely say out loud:

For many families, there is at least one young person struggling with alcohol or substance use. A son, a daughter, a relative, a friend.

This is not an isolated issue. It is becoming a community reality.

And this is exactly why The Empyros Initiative exists.

Empyros is not just another youth program. It is a community response system built around:
• Mentorship and guidance
• Mental health and psychosocial support
• Youth leadership and purpose development
• Research-informed interventions
• Safe spaces for recovery, growth, and reconnection

Because behind every “lost youth” narrative is often a story of unmet support, missed connection, or unaddressed struggle.

We believe communities must move from silence and frustration to structured, compassionate, and evidence-based engagement.

This is not a one-man agenda. It is becoming a community agenda.

And it requires all of us.

This is why Empyros exists: to turn community concern into structured action for youth wellbeing, mental health, and recovery pathways

The pathway to the streets often starts much earlier, inside schools and homes.
