I am about to give you the same checklist MICT students uses before every student enters a checkpoint, an IGCSE and AS/A-level examination room for FREE.
Because every parent deserves access to information that gives their child a real advantage and not just the parents who can afford premium tutoring.

Students who have used this Checklist have improved more than 1 grade up from the last grade

But before we proceed, how is your child performing in exams: pre-mocks, mocks, random assessment, end term exams?

Today, mark the calendar, the change on performance is guided by this checklist.

THE MICT IGCSE EXAM TECHNIQUE CHECKLIST covers:

✅ Command word analysis - the single skill that separates A students from C students in marking
✅ Time allocation strategy - subject by subject
✅ The 'check, mark, move' method that reclaims 8–12% of lost marks
✅ Pre-exam emotional regulation - the 5-minute routine MICT students practise before every paper
✅ How to approach a question you do not know and still earn partial marks
✅ Common mistakes per subject: Mathematics, Sciences, English and Humanities

This checklist has helped MICT students improve their exam performance constituently

Here is the naked truth about the Kenyan Competency-Based Education Curriculum:
Every parent in Kenya has heard of Competency Based Education (CBE).
But fewer than 10% understand what it actually demands from their child.

No teacher’s briefing, no school newsletter, and no government announcement has ever explained to you clearly that:

CBE does not test what your child KNOWS.
It tests what your child can DO with what they know.

CBE a fundamentally different type of learning — and it requires a fundamentally different type of teaching.

Under 8-4-4:
A student who memorised the water cycle well could pass the exam.

Under CBE:
That same student must demonstrate they can apply knowledge of the water cycle to explain a real-world environmental situation. Explaining in their own words and with evidence.

Wondering why your child is remaining the same even if curriculum are different? Most tutors in Nairobi are still teaching CBE content using 8-4-4 methods.

They are filling the new CBE bucket with the old 8-4-4 water.
And wondering why it keeps leaking.

MICT tutors are trained in CBE's competency framework and not just its content.

We teach children HOW to demonstrate understanding, not just WHAT to understand.

Parents' Wisdom Wednesday - Know your Child
What Is Emotional Intelligence in Education — And Why Your Child's Future Depends on It Intelligence in Education.

Your child's Intelligence Quotient (IQ) gets them into the exam room. Their EQ (Emotional Intelligence) determines what happens inside it.

And yet every tuition centre, every private tutor, every after-school programme in Nairobi focuses exclusively on IQ.

Here is what Emotional Intelligence in education actually looks like:
🧠 SELF-AWARENESS:
The ability to recognize 'I am feeling overwhelmed right now' and having a strategy for what to do next.

Emotional intelligence teachers your child to recognize and name their emotions and feelings. When overwhelmed, students with EI will pause, breathe, and continue.

🎯 SELF REGULATION
The ability to manage frustration when a topic feels impossible. How does your child manage disappointment when exam does not go as expected despite revision and preparations?

EI helps your child not to give up when the first explanation does not land. To keep going when a practice paper score is disappointing.

💪 RESILIENCE
Resilience is not the generic 'try harder' advice. Actual, practised, tested resilience is built through structured experience of overcoming academic challenges in a safe environment.

Resilience is built when the teacher knows your child emotionally. They help them grow

🗣️ SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE:
It is the ability to learn from peers, ask for help without shame, and communicate learning difficulties to a tutor clearly.

Does your child ask questions to teachers in class? Does your child seek help when they don’t understand the topic, or they are afraid of being judged?
Social intelligence is a key driver of your child’s performance.

At MICT, these four capacities are not an add-on to our academic programmes.
They are built into every single session. Our teachers are trained on Emotional Intelligence so that they can understand the emotions and resonate with their academic struggles.

Teaching without Emotional Intelligence is like reading a comic storybook, just for entertainment.

Do you want to see a change in your child? An end to academic struggles? To see your child opening up at home and asking questions in class? Building confidence and speaking their mind?
MICT is the academic centre for your child.

Many parents were afraid that performance will remain poor, but when MICT offered their children structured tuition with emotional intelligence, performance improved in 2 months.

The child started opening up at home and became interactive with others. Home engagement changed positively.
Today, the parent is happy they took the step.

Because the students who win academically are not always the most intelligent.
They are the most emotionally equipped.

The Most Expensive Mistake That Can Cost Your Child's Education

Amina had been searching for an IGCSE tutor for her daughter for three weeks.
She had seen our tuition program, but she had not made a decision yet. However, she almost hired a random tutor that could have costed her child's future.

She had two options on her phone: Freelancer tutor and MICT
The Freelancer tutor charged KES 3,500 a month. MICT wanted to determine the student's actual knowledge gaps before charging her so that the fee is based on actual gaps and not guesswork.

She was ready to choose the cheaper one.
Then she asked both tutors the same question:

"How do you identify what my daughter doesn't know before you start teaching her?"

The freelancer tutor said: "We go through the syllabus from the beginning until we see when she is unable to solve questions given as homework."

The MICT academic department responded and said: "We start with a FREE structured academic gap assessment. We map exactly where she is, identify the specific gaps, and build her programme around those gaps, not around a generic textbook plan."

After a thought, Amina enrolled with MICT.
After assessment, she received a diagnostic assessment report, a study plan was tailored to her child's knowledge gaps. class activeness and performance reports were given by the teacher daily to the parent.

Three months later, her daughter moved from a predicted Grade D in Chemistry to a confirmed Grade B in her mocks.

The gap assessment revealed she had a fundamental misunderstanding of one concept from Year 9 that had cascaded into every Year 10 Chemistry topic.
Once that single gap was closed, everything clicked.

The KES 3,500 tutor would have taught her from Chapter 1 to the last topic again.

And she would have failed again, because the tuition is not structured.

At MICT, every student begins with a structured academic gap assessment. We understand your child is unique, so is our structured tuition for each child.

We do not teach from Chapter 1. We teach from where your child actually is.

Your child is active in class. They studied all night. They walked into that exam room prepared. They walked out broken, and you never saw it coming.

No parent talks about this, but almost every parent has lived this reality of their children.

The anxiety. self-doubt. The blank mind. Your child KNOWS the content but cannot access it the moment it matters most.

This is not a knowledge problem; it is an emotional readiness problem. Your child gets overridden by the fear and self-doubts over certainty calmness

Both the international curricula and Kenya's education system, from 8-4-4 to CBC to Cambridge to Edexcel, none of them teaches emotional intelligence and management as a core component of learning.

At MICT, we do.

Because we believe that a child who knows the content but falls apart under pressure has been only half prepared. Such a child cannot perform because the mind is troubled by anxiety and fear.

Has your child ever walked out of an exam knowing they underperformed, not because they didn't study, but because something else got in the way? Tell us in the comments

If it happened, you are not alone. However, the struggle is not permanent, it is fixable.

Your child does not give up the first time they perform poorly. They give up after trying several times, but no improvement is witnessed in their performance pattern.
You have checked the academic report card of your child for last term, were you happy?

When you asked your child about their performance, they say:
“Chemistry and mathematics is too hard for me”
“I have tried but this is what I score”
“I had better scores than my classmates.”
“I understood in class, but I don’t know what happened in exam.”

What it means is that they have stopped trying.
when you noticed same results twice, did you sit with them? Did you try to get them a tuition support?
Or you bought them many revision books?

Your child is not lazy or poor performer; they only need to be guided on:
- Revision methods
- Exam preparation techniques
- Notes taking methods
- Topical content filtering
- Understanding of each topic
- Bridging of the existing gaps
Now every new lesson felt impossible. They weren’t lazy. They were overwhelmed.
For many student who had same issue, parents thought they were lazy in school. Instead, we started by structuring their study plan and personalize their academic needs. We appreciated their small wins.
After the first successful application of the study strategies, they smiled and said,
“This is easier than I thought.”
It wasn’t easier. It was structured.

Many students don’t hate subjects. They hate accumulated confusion.
When parents say,
“They just don’t like chemistry and mathematics”
The real question is:
At what point did your child stop understanding?
And who identified it early enough?

Academic performance does not slow down for emotional recovery.

If foundation gaps exist, they must be diagnosed precisely and filled, not assumed.

The grades in your child's report are declining in every exam. Are you still guessing that they will improve next term without giving them support? No, it will only get worse. Change of term/semester does not change your child's grades, the right academic support and guidance do.

We have interacted with parents who waited for their children to fail second last exam for them to seek academic support.
We helped them regain momentum, but it was too late to change the whole performance trend. The final exam,,,,the student FAILED!

Avoid such experience as a parent. Get academic support for your child early.
We provider Personalized and Structured academic support tuitions that are specific to your child's needs. We prepare your child on syllabus understanding, train them exam technique, train them confidence, cultivate their wellbeing through emotional intelligence and mental health integration into tuition and help them overcome exam fear and anxiety.

Can that be done 1 exam away? No. That is why you need to enroll to Melbourne International Homeschooling Tuition programs on time to avoid anxiety ruining your child's results.
