Last month, I had the opportunity to educate women in my community on mental health in a women-centric conference. We tried to create a safe and non-judgemental space for candid conversations, confusions, and queries, which led us to talk about:
🌼Demystifying mental health and it's dynamic fronts from everyday stress to disorders.
🌼Mind-body communication and how auto-immune diseases show up in the body stemming from dysregulated nervous systems
🌼Lived experiences on mental health, disorders and how to identify and support people living with depression and anxiety.
🌼Rumination and self-induced suffering.
🌼Positive emotional experiences and their accessibility
I'm a huge advocate for accessibility of resources, unfortunately psychology and mental wellbeing related content is mainly in academic English, which is usually incomprehensible to the average person. This is why I use every opportunity to communicate in Punjabi for the wonderful people of my community. It's also why I offer the Emotions Course in Punjabi.
Conversations like these are important for every community, for humanity in general. This is how we lift each other up. My gratitude goes out the women empowerment committee of Sikhi Council Kenya for arranging this and inviting me to share time, space and knowledge with the resilient women of our community.
