For a moment, we paused the lectures, assignments, and busy schedules… and simply enjoyed being together
The BANUS Hangout reminded us that university life is also about friendships, connection, and creating memories that last beyond campus.
Thank you to everyone who made the day special. Until the next one

🌱💚 A Day of Impact at Statehouse JSS 💚🌱

We are truly grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Tree Planting and Mentorship Event at Statehouse Junior Secondary School. It was a powerful and meaningful experience bringing together leaders, students, and organizations with one shared goal shaping a better future.

We sincerely appreciate the presence and support of the Chairperson and staff of the Department of Biology, our dedicated lecturers, and all leaders who took their time to guide and inspire the students through mentorship and career talks. Your insights and encouragement made a lasting impact.

A big thank you as well to the various University of Nairobi clubs and student organizations including BANUS, NUMSA, CEAC, UoN-SRISA, and the Entrepreneurship Club, whose members actively engaged with students through peer-to-peer mentorship. Your role in sharing real experiences and guiding career paths in STEM, humanities, arts, and sports was truly invaluable.

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to the administration, teachers, and students of Statehouse JSS for the warm welcome and active participation throughout the event. Your enthusiasm and willingness to learn made the day even more special.

🔬 Advancing Research & Innovation in the Department of Biology 🔬

Earlier this semester, the Department of Biology marked a significant milestone with the official launch of a modern Microscope system, designed to transform how we study and interact with biological specimens.
The event was graced by the Dean of the Faculty, the Chairperson of the Department of Biology, lecturers, and student leaders, all coming together to witness this important step forward in academic and scientific advancement.
This new system integrates modern technology that allows clear, detailed, and enhanced digital display of specimens, making it easier for students and researchers to observe, analyze, and share findings. It not only improves the learning experience but also strengthens the department’s capacity for cutting-edge research and innovation.
With this advancement, students now have better opportunities to engage in practical learning, develop critical scientific skills, and explore research with greater precision and efficiency. It also opens doors for collaboration, data sharing, and modern approaches to scientific discovery.
This initiative reflects the department’s commitment to excellence in education, innovation, and continuous improvement in the field of biological sciences.
We appreciate the leadership and support from the faculty and all stakeholders who made this possible. This is a big step toward shaping future scientists and researchers.

🌿 The future of science is here and it starts with innovation.

May her soul rest in eternal peace ✌️

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Margret Hutchinson joins the University community in mourning the passing of Dr. Mary Wambui Kimani, a former Dean of the School of Built Environment (formerly under the College of Architecture and Engineering) and a long-serving member of staff in the Department of Real Estate, Construction Management and Quantity Surveying.

She served the University for over 30 years with dedication and consistency. Her loss is deeply felt across the University and the wider academic community.

Dr. Kimani was a Registered Planner and an alumna of this university. Her research focused on housing for the urban poor, land use, women in rural transport, and land management policy in Kenya. Her work continues to contribute to some of the most important planning conversations in the region.

We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends and all who knew her. Dr. Kimani was part of what makes the University what it is. We honour her long and industrious service.

May her soul rest in peace.
