PEER COUNSELLORS' TRAINING: ST. AUGUSTINE NYAMONYE GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL
On Sunday, 24th May 2026, we had an enriching and impactful engagement with the Peer Counsellors of St. Augustine Nyamonye Girls’ High School during a comprehensive training session aimed at equipping them with practical skills to effectively support their fellow students.
Peer counsellors play a critical role in schools as first responders in identifying and supporting learners facing emotional, psychological, academic, and social challenges.
In today’s school environment, where students face increasing pressures ranging from academic stress to emotional struggles and peer influence, strengthening peer support systems is not just important; it is necessary. When empowered, peer counsellors become ambassadors of hope, empathy, positive behaviour, and resilience within the school community.
We commend the administration of St. Augustine Nyamonye Girls’ High School for prioritizing student wellbeing and investing in leadership and psychosocial support structures that make schools safer and more supportive spaces for learners.
At DWB Foundation, we remain committed to raising emotionally healthy, resilient, and responsible young people through mentorship, psychosocial support, and wellness programmes.

MENTAL HEALTH SKILLS DAY: UZIMA UNIVERSITY
On Friday, 22nd May 2026, we joined Uzima University fraternity as they marked their Mental Health Skills Day, an important event aimed at strengthening mental health awareness and equipping learners with practical coping and intervention skills.
The event brought together various partners and stakeholders, including TINADA, Equity Bank, and As One Nurse, all united by a common goal — empowering young people with skills to effectively understand and manage mental health challenges.
As DWB Foundation, we facilitated a session on “Psychotherapy as a Critical Aspect for Every Professional”, highlighting the importance of emotional wellness, therapeutic support, and mental health responsiveness regardless of one’s career path, especially in helping professions.
We were honoured to have in attendance the DVC Partnerships, Uzima University, the Dean of Students, and the Chairperson, School of Nursing, whose presence underscored the growing commitment of institutions of higher learning towards student mental wellness.
Mental health continues to be a major concern in many institutions of higher learning, affecting students’ academic performance, relationships, and overall wellbeing. It is therefore important to create such platforms that not only create awareness but also enhance students’ coping mechanisms and resilience in navigating life’s challenges.
We appreciate Uzima University for prioritizing conversations around mental health and investing in the emotional and psychological wellbeing of learners. Together, we can build mentally healthy institutions and communities.

EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL WELLNESS SESSION FOR TEACHERS: BAR-UNION SECONDARY SCHOOL
Yesterday, we spent our afternoon at Bar-Union Secondary School for an important and impactful Emotional and Mental Wellness Session with the teaching staff.
Teaching is increasingly becoming a demanding and stressful profession. Beyond curriculum implementation, teachers today are navigating diverse student needs, parental expectations, performance pressure, changing education systems, administrative demands, and personal life challenges. In such an environment, it becomes critically important for teachers to understand their emotional triggers and learn healthy ways of avoiding, managing, or coping with them.
Teaching is a caring profession. The effectiveness of curriculum implementation, student mentorship, classroom management, and overall school performance is greatly influenced by the emotional and mental state of the teacher. Simply put, when teachers are not okay, learning is affected. Prioritizing teacher wellness is therefore not a luxury—it is a necessity.
It is also a reality that teachers are often the first responders to student issues. From emotional struggles, behavioural concerns, grief, anxiety, peer pressure, family challenges, and mental health concerns, students often turn to teachers first. However, teachers can only support learners effectively when they themselves are emotionally and mentally well.
As an organization, we remain committed to championing emotional and mental wellness among educators. At the same time, teachers must also take an active role in promoting their own wellbeing through self-awareness, healthy coping strategies, support systems, rest, and intentional self-care.
We sincerely appreciate the administration, particularly the Principal, the Guidance and Counselling Department, and teaching staff of the school for prioritizing such timely and meaningful conversations that promote a holistic and supportive learning environment.
A healthy teacher contributes to healthy learners.

PEER COUNSELLORS' TRAINING: AGORO SARE HIGH SCHOOL
On Sunday, 17th May 2026, we were at Agoro Sare High School for the training of their Peer Counsellors. This highly interactive and impactful session was designed to strengthen peer support systems within the school by equipping peer counsellors with practical knowledge and skills to effectively support their fellow students.
Peer counselling remains a critical component in addressing diverse student issues at a peer-to-peer level. In many cases, students are more likely to open up to fellow students before approaching teachers or parents. It is therefore important to empower peer counsellors with the right skills for effectiveness in this noble duty.
The boys were highly attentive, actively engaged throughout the session, and openly expressed that the training was highly helpful and insightful. Their willingness to learn and commitment to becoming better support systems for their peers was both inspiring and encouraging.
We highly commend the Guidance and Counselling Department at Agoro Sare High School for its commitment to supporting students through intentional programmes such as this. Organizing peer counsellors’ trainings demonstrates a proactive and holistic approach to student wellness, leadership, discipline, and emotional support within the school environment.
At DWB Foundation, we remain committed to strengthening school-based support systems and empowering students to become responsible leaders, positive influencers, and dependable support networks for one another.
