Last week our students went to participate in the Nairobi Book Fair an event organized by publishers in Kenya. They enjoyed a story telling session at the Story Moja Publishers who are our main partners in the Sunrise of Africa School book club.

It was a great day!

After the great success of the 2024 Swimathon fundraiser, The Rotary Club of Redlands Bayside, Queensland, Australia, is organising a second Swimathon fundraiser for Sunrise of Africa School on September 20th 2025. We are so grateful!

This Swimathon is raising money for a biodigester/septic tank, which will purify and recycle the water from the new toilet/shower block back into the toilets. This will help enable Sunrise to continue to preserve our very precious water resources.

The school uses bore holes and rainwater as it is not connected to town water, and thus saving water is essential for us to make the school sustainable for the future.

Three of Corinne’s family members (Michelle, James and Matthew), along with their friends, will be swimming in the Swimathon at the Cleveland Aquatic Centre on 20th September 2025, and they would be so grateful for any donations for this very important project. We are always so grateful for the support Sunrise receives from around the world.

Donations can be make via Rotary (tax deductible in Australia):

Donations made to our not for profit Sunrise of Africa School Charitable Foundation Inc are tax deductible in the US. Bank account details for Sunrise can also be found on our website:

Donations via either of the above links can be made from anywhere in the world via credit card.

We are so grateful for all the support given to Sunrise of Africa School to help us to continue to educate many Kenyan children.

Our school was privileged to be part of a tournament titled DANA CUP TOURNAMENT held in Merishow School. The schools in attendance were, Makini, Nova, Merisho, Kitengela International, Dame etc (quite big schools in the country). We registered in the under 15 yrs category. Our girls and boys tactfully played and won all the matches in the group stages. In the semi finals our boys lost to another school qualifying them as second runners-up. On the other hand, the girls climbed the ladder with much focus and determination, all the way to the finals and won. They received a trophy, medals and certificates.

Our Deputy Head, Felisters, wrote a fantastic article about the Forest Challenge that our students were involved in:

THE FOREST CHALLENGE

Have you ever wanted to experience real life temple run? Well, forest challenge is the event for you, except there are no villains running after you, rather you will be competing with teams to overcome obstacles with an aim to win.

On 30th November 2024, ten learners and 4 teachers of sunrise of Africa school had an opportunity to participate in the Forest challenge 2024 edition which was held in Kereita forest, Kijabe.

Upon arrival, the group was hit with the cold humid air characteristic of a heavily forested area which is a great contrast of Kitengela which is hot and dusty. The groups that had arrived earlier were already engaging in warm up activities led by a very energetic and vibrant MC. The music blaring in the speakers was “Anguka Nayo” because how can the event be spicy without the hottest music banger at the time in the country? The learners immediately joined the warm up as the organizers were preparing for the real challenge to start.

The different groups were split into smaller teams comprising four members. We had four teams for our group, and now it was the time for the rubber to hit the road. The team were issued with a card that listed the activities and obstacles to be overcome along the trails.

The obstacles included but not limited to the wild swing, passing through obstacles blindfolded, crawling under and climbing over different obstacles, sack race and javelin.

The terrain between the different obstacles was the real challenge, it was a test of strength, resilience and tenacity. The steep slopes coupled with the heavy rains created a mudslide and the participants had no other choice but to obey the law of gravity by sliding down the terrain freely. Woe unto those with white clothing for they shall struggle to wash away the stains.

At the finishing point, all the participants looked like they were from having a mud bath as they were covered by mud from head to toe. It was a real muddy affair.

After freshening up and having lunch, it was now time to crown the kings of the forest. Every participant received a certificate of participation. Our team received the school’s champion award. In addition to that, the youngest participants received complimentary vouchers for horse riding at the forest adventure centre.

Finally it was time to go back to our dusty home, Kitengela. Until the next challenge, Adios!
