The UoN Office of Dean of Students and Career Services held a University of Nairobi Mental Health Strategic Partners’ breakfast which convened stakeholders to assess current interventions and identify critical gaps in student mental health services.
The meeting highlighted that mental wellness is directly linked to academic performance, retention, and overall student success and must therefore be treated as a strategic institutional priority.
In her message, the Vice-Chancellor-UoN Prof. Margaret Hutchinson noted that, Mental health challenges among young people are increasing at an alarming rate. "Within our universities, this reality is evident in rising cases of stress, anxiety, depression, and other psychosocial concerns."
The partners also called for strengthened multi-sectoral collaboration to address resource limitations, reduce stigma, and improve access to quality mental health support across all campuses.
Wellness is a strategic priority directly linked to academic success, institutional performance, and student retention, calling for a shift from fragmented interventions to an integrated, preventive, and student-centered system supported by strong partnerships, innovation, and sustained investment to ensure every student is empowered to thrive.
If our students are not well, they cannot learn, lead, or thrive. The UoN Office of Dean of Students and Career Services remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting student well-being through responsive, accessible, and student-centered services ensuring that every learner is empowered to successfully complete their academic journey and realize their full potential.
