Today, we are delighted to welcome the newest members of the National Read Aloud network. They are teachers, professionals, parents, leaders, and change makers from different counties and walks of life. What unites them is a simple but powerful belief that every child deserves the chance to be heard, imagined with, and inspired through the joy of reading aloud.

On Friday, 10th July, they will step into classrooms across the country to share stories with learners and remind them that their voices, dreams, and ideas matter.

If you have ever wondered how you can shape a child's future, this is your invitation. Sign up as a Reading Ambassador today here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeXLMhxTDu3DFBdqpgR6W3xVffbNKFQHbN8-cHm6oKrQaifKw/viewform

Welcome aboard Human Practice Foundation , one of our longtime friends and partners for The National Read Aloud.

HPF is a social impact organization working in rural areas such as Mount Kenya and Maasai Mara, improving school infrastructure, strengthening teacher capacity through modern, child-friendly approaches and engaging students through workshops that promote a positive learning environment and encourage responsibility for their own development.

Through this partnership, their partner schools have enrolled to read aloud on 10th July, their staff have signed up as reading ambassadors joining learners in their respective schools and they have sponsored copies of the book, The Boy and The Lion, from which the excerpt is drawn ensuring learners in these schools have access to the books to read before, during, and after the D-day, at their own pace, and to support peer learning and meaningful life skills discussions.

It is partnerships like these that support the success of this nationwide initiative, nurture a culture of reading and champion lifelong learning among our children

Partner with us today, we have several ways for organizations and individuals to get involved.

Last week, a group of learners at James Gichuru Primary School sat with a book written by a Kenyan woman, about a Kenyan girl, in a language that felt like their own. Not a textbook. Not an exercise. A story, the kind that gets under your skin because it already knows you.

Muthoni wa Gichuru's Breaking the Silence doesn't ask young readers to work hard to relate. It meets them where they are. And in Dandora, a community where silence can feel like the only safe option, watching young people encounter a story that says "your experience is real, and it is worth telling" is everything.

This is why books matter. Not as objects on a shelf, but as the moment a young person realises that someone, somewhere, wrote something just for them.

Thank you to our partners at Goethe-Institut Nairobi for making moments like this possible.

Every story a child reads introduces them to new worlds, new ideas, and new possibilities. A book can spark a dream, answer a question, inspire a solution, or simply remind a child that their voice and their story matter. When reading becomes enjoyable, learning becomes something children look forward to rather than something they have to do.

Last Friday, we celebrated the opening of a new library at Utumishi SACCO Primary School in partnership with Sukuma Twende Trust. Together, we donated 1,000 storybooks that will give learners countless opportunities to discover the magic of reading and develop a lifelong love for books.

While the library's shelves are now filled with stories, the real impact will unfold in the months and years ahead. It will be seen in children gathering around books during their free time, eagerly turning pages to find out what happens next, strengthening their literacy skills without even realizing it because they are enjoying the journey.

We are grateful to Sukuma Twende Trust for walking this journey with us and for investing in a future where every child has the opportunity to read, learn, and dream.

Freedom gives us the power to dream. Education gives us the power to achieve. This Madaraka Day, we celebrate both as we continue building a brighter future for every child.

Happy Madaraka Day! πŸ‡°πŸ‡ͺπŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

This month, we saw children express themselves in the most beautiful ways.

Some stood before their classmates nervously but gradually gained confidence and spelt out words they once struggled to pronounce. Others boldly shared opinions during inter-school debates, discovering that their ideas deserved to be acknowledged.

Somewhere in between all these moments, confidence kept growing. Not just confidence to read but to participate, express ideas, ask questions and believe in themselves.

As conversations around literacy continues reaching more homes and communities through media engagements and advocacy spaces, we were reminded once again that literacy is not only a school task but a community affair.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us ❀️
