Drawing on lived experience and community narratives, she uses poetry, film, journalism, and public engagement to challenge dominant narratives, celebrate cultural identity, and inspire collective action toward justice, liberation, and social transformation

To every poet who stepped onto the stage and blew us away, and to every single one of you who filled the seats at Braeburn Theatre, THANK YOU! You helped us track the clues, uncover the mysteries, and kick off this season with unforgettable energy. The 1st Preliminary is officially in the books, and it wouldn't have been the same without our incredible community.

This chapter may be over, but the investigation is far from done. The adventure continues... 🪵🏹

PRIME SUSPECT: NAINENA

All Hail The Winner of the 1st preliminary of Poetry Slam Africa 2026 that took place this past Sunday at Braeburn Theatre Gitanga Rd.

Nainena edged out a pool of worthy opponents to take the crown and will be one of the 3 poets heading to the Grand Slam event slated for January 2027.

Fun Fact: Nainena is the reigning Rising Voices Schools' Slam Champion.
