WELCOME TO THE PRACTICAL FILM ART ACADEMY, A DIVISION OF EPHANTUS FILM. INTRODUCTION
Our vision is to be the school that provides the syllabus we wish we had when we went to film school. The film industry requires some essential tools from students before engaging them in a job.
1. A show-reel - Which shows the students practical work.
2. Industrial Experience- The evidence that a student has b
een to the industry
3. Credits - The evidence that shows under what capacity a student participated in the production of a film. The technological changes in the film industry have led to a fast growth in the techniques of movie making. In Kenya specifically, the growth in the film industry has been slow. I can attribute this to the old fashioned syllabus that is used to train film-makers in Kenya.Students spend alot of time studying theoritical models of film-making while the curriculum does not allow them to be hands-on. This is the reason why the quality of film-production in Kenya is low as compared to other countries around the world. That’s why our curriculum is designed around a series of increasingly challenging and motivating movie projects. As opposed to the generic perception that film production is an easy process, it is the exact opposite. It is hard for students to understand the challenges and procedures that can be followed if they are not on set. I can compare it to the process of baking a cake.If i read in a magazine , the recipe and procedures of baking a black forest cake,it sounds very easy but it is only when i get to the kitchen and bake a real cake that i notice , it is not as easy as i thought. If students are trained in a theoritical curriculum, the industry will have to either train them to be hands-on or reject them as they are not practical. In the film industry, it is better to be practical. The current film curriculum is a definite disconnect between the work that is done in this schools and the work that is required in the industry. We are here to break this long gap between what students learn and what the industry needs. Our students are hands-on, they understand the entire process of production by going to set and producing their own movies. Our teachers are industrial professionals who have been hands-on for a minimum of 5 years in thee movie industry. Our library is full of multimedia tutorials that handle different topics of film-production. Our students have a drive to be hands-on and change the Kenyan film industry. This is why we are THE PRACTICAL FILM ART ACADEMY. Enroll with us and be a practical person. COURSES AVAILABLE.
