As we introduce solid foods to our babies it is important to remember the impact solid foods have on their speech development.

Developing foods that are soft and easy to digest has been a gradual process in human evolution. I am sure no one wants to go back to our ancestors' countless days when cooking and chewing their food took most of their waking days. However, as we create new ways to prepare food, we forget how important chewing food is for us, especially babies and toddlers.

Chewing is an important gross motor skill that highly impacts a child’s holistic development. It’s a skill that engages all the child’s senses (with a gradual introduction to different textures). Chewing food is an important skill that children need to learn for their health and development.

Chewing food requires coordination and strength of the oral motor muscles. Chewing also helps children explore different textures, tastes, and sensations in their mouths. These experiences help children develop awareness and control of their oral structures, which are essential for speech production.

Happy new year!
I have a new post on How to cope with Toddler tantrums.

Toddler temper tantrums start from 18 months old and are a normal phase in childhood. Children at this age want to express themselves but are not able to. However, as a child gets older, 3-4 years old, the temper tantrums shift to a power struggle.

Parents, we need to realise that respect is earned and taught.

Have you ever been to a restaurant where the person at the next table speaks harshly to the waiters? How do you feel? Is it embarrassing for you? Do you question the people/person who raised him/her?

Then why do you allow your child to disrespectfully speak to you or anyone else?

Why would you allow your child to grow up into a rude adult?

I think it is time we intentionally teach our children appropriate behaviour in our homes and in public. It is time to teach them respectful behaviour and communication. We need to give them an appropriate definition of respect.

A school is a business!
When a school is being set up, the owners and board of directors sit and discuss the vision THEY have for the school and the caliber of students they want to have.
There are so many schools out there offering different philosophies and values, take time to look around and pick what is best for you and your child!

Skills parents need to TEACH 19/07/2022

Hey!
As you look at you little toddler full of joy now, it seems like a lifetime away for them to stand on their own two feet. It feels wrong to start teaching them to do things for themselves but I can promise you it is not!

For now, it may seem impossible to begin the idea of responsibility but it’s never too early or too late for your toddler. There are a few activities you can engage your toddler in to boost them.

Discipline is the path to successful children! 21/06/2022

‘Raise your children right, discipline them when you are able to and enjoy raising, as well as “spoiling” your grandchildren in old age. However spoil your children and raise your grandchildren!'

Education does not always start and stop in school. Before, during and after formal ' education', parents have to teach and develop certain skills and character attributes in their children.
