Going for the Rwenzori Marathon?

This is a 7 day road trip with 3 nights in a budget hotel, 3 nights camping and a day around the Rwenzori, so what you pack matters.

Start with the basics. You will need a valid National ID or Passport for the Uganda border crossing, proper running shoes that you have already tested, warm clothes for the cold nights, a rain jacket and a power bank for the days on the road.

Also carry some cash and M-Pesa for Jinja activities and personal expenses, and do not forget your marathon registration confirmation.

How many times have you told yourself, “Next time, I will just go”?

Maybe you see a trip, a race, a road trip or some random adventure online and think, “Hii nayo, I should actually do this.” Then life happens, the weekend passes, and you’re back to the usual routine.

Well, this time, the timing is actually perfect.

On 18 August, we are leaving Nairobi at 5AM and driving to Uganda for the Rwenzori Marathon. It is not just about getting to Kasese for race day; the whole seven-day journey is part of the experience, with the road trip, the people you meet, the scenery and a few places along the way that you probably wouldn’t see on a normal holiday.

The package is KSh 44,040 per person and covers transport, accommodation and daily breakfast. We leave on 18 August and return to Nairobi on 24 August.

And honestly, if you have been looking for an excuse to do something different this year, this is a pretty good one.
You can always do the usual August weekend. Or you can get on that truck and come back with a story.
