Nyota Ing'arayo Primary School began in 2007 as a day care centre providing daily shelter to children in Shauriyako and the surrounding areas of Mombasa. Since 2007 it has grown into a large school teaching up to 235 children from Kindergarten to Standard 8. We provide our students with daily nutritious meals and an education program centred around Kenyan curriculum with an opportunity to sit the KCPE (Kenya Certificate of Primary Education) exam in their final year of primary school. This certification will open doors to a secondary education and other positive opportunities for their futures. We rely upon sponsorships to help us maintain our current programmes. Donations currently supply our school with the means to pay monthly rent on our property, supplement teachers wages when school fees are delayed, provide a feeding programme for all the students, supply school materials and sponsor income generating projects within the school. Our school fees per student are; 500 shillings per month/1500 shillings per term. The majority of our families are currently covering these costs, with the remaining students being supported by donations. We are flexible with payment schemes allowing struggling families to keep their children in school, giving them more time to accumulate funds. It is our vision to become a self-sufficient, independent school and continue to provide quality education for many years to come. Without schools like Nyota Ing'arayo Primary School these children would not have a safe space to learn, grow and strive towards a brighter, educated future.
