RE: Celebrating the rise of Munyuki Mixed Secondary School in county sports
In the just-concluded KSSSA Kakamega County Term II Games, a name echoed louder than most, our neighbor and friend, Munyuki Mixed Secondary School.
We at St. Paul’s Lugari Boys have watched Munyuki grow from its early days, a humble community day school with limited infrastructure and learners from largely modest backgrounds, and we're happy to have supported the growth either directly or indirectly. Yet, in recent times, Munyuki has become a true giant slayer, striking fear in the hearts of established football powerhouses across Kakamega County.
Against all odds, they have shown the region and indeed the entire county, that heart, discipline, and raw talent can outweigh reputation, resources, or historical status. Their journey is not only about football; it’s a powerful story of resilience, focus, and the undeniable potential of grassroots institutions.
Munyuki’s impact goes beyond scorelines. It speaks to the power of belief and the importance of nurturing local talent. Their players have ignited a spark in Lugari sub-county, a reminder that greatness doesn’t require perfect conditions, just the right spirit.
As we now look ahead to 2026 and begin preparing our athletes, this is a wake-up call to us all: never underestimate any competitor based on size, name, or history.
Let us teach our students humility, respect for others, and the understanding that true sportsmanship is not just about winning, but about rising together.
