KENYA FORESTRY COLLEGE HOLDS 49TH GRADUATION CEREMONY

The Kenya Forestry College (KFC) has held its 49th Graduation Ceremony, celebrating the successful completion of training by the Class of 2026.

The ceremony brought together government officials, forestry and environmental stakeholders, college management and staff, graduands, parents and other invited guests to mark the important milestone.

The Principal Secretary, State Department for Forestry, Mr. Mugambi Gitonga, congratulated the graduands for their hard work, dedication and commitment throughout their studies. He underscored the importance of the 15 Billion Trees Growing Programme, noting its contribution to biodiversity conservation, sustainable energy, livelihoods, tourism and rural development. He urged the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) to strengthen collaboration, research and innovation in support of the national tree-growing target.

The Principal Secretary for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Eng. Festus Ng’eno, emphasized the importance of developing a skilled workforce capable of advancing Kenya’s environmental conservation and climate action agenda. He encouraged the graduands to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during their training to promote sustainable forest management, environmental protection and climate resilience.

The Chief Conservator of Forests, Mr. Alex Lemarkoko, highlighted the critical role of trained forestry professionals in advancing Kenya’s conservation agenda, particularly in forest restoration, tree growing and environmental protection. He congratulated the graduands on their achievement and urged them to put their skills into practice in support of sustainable forest management and the country’s environmental goals.

The ceremony was attended by Kipkelion East Member of Parliament, Hon. Joseph Cherorot, Kenya Forestry College Principal Mr. Francis Musyimi, government officials, forestry stakeholders, college staff, college staff, parents, graduands and other invited guests.

The graduation also highlighted the growing participation of women in forestry training. Female enrolment and graduation have increased steadily since 2022, with women making up the majority of this year’s graduands.

A total of 381 graduands were awarded, comprising 174 males and 207 females, marking another significant milestone in the development of Kenya’s forestry workforce.

KFS HOLDS THANKSGIVING SERVICE TO WELCOME NEW STUDENTS AT KFC

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” In recognition of God’s divine intervention and guidance, the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has, for the past four years, held an Interdenominational Thanksgiving Service at the Kenya Forestry College (KFC) in Londiani to welcome new students and give thanks for the milestones achieved by the institution and the Service. This year was no different, with the Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF), Mr. Alex Lemarkoko, leading the college fraternity in prayers and thanksgiving for the achievements recorded during the year.

The sermon was delivered by the KFS Chief Chaplain, Bishop Amos Ololdapash, who drew his message from Luke 8:4–8, the Parable of the Sower. Bishop Ololdapash encouraged the congregation to be like the seeds sown on good soil that produced abundant fruit. He urged the students to uphold good morals, remain diligent in their studies and allow God to guide their lives and decisions.

In his address, the CCF said good leadership was key to transforming the forestry sector. He commended the KFC Principal, Mr. Francis Musyimi, for his leadership, which he noted had contributed significantly to the institution’s tremendous growth. Mr. Lemarkoko also lauded the Commanding Officer of the Forest Law Enforcement Academy (FoLEA), Mr. Apollinary Mwandigha, for spearheading major reforms at the Academy, including the establishment of the new Mukutani Campus, which has already trained its first cohort of KFS Inspectorate staff.

The CCF emphasised, however, that these achievements would not have been possible without the personal commitment and support of His Excellency President William Ruto towards forest conservation and sustainable forest management.
“Over the past four years of President Ruto’s administration, the Service has employed more than 3,600 staff to bolster its previously dwindling workforce. This includes 2,700 Rangers, 600 foresters and, most recently, more than 300 support staff,” said the CCF.
‎Addressing the students, Mr. Lemarkoko encouraged them to work hard and assured them that the Service would continue creating opportunities for qualified and exemplary students. He directed the Principal to develop a strategy for engaging graduating students through internship programmes as they await formal employment opportunities.

‎The CCF also acknowledged the challenge of inadequate classrooms and hostels occasioned by the increased student enrolment. He assured the students and college administration that the Service was exploring funding opportunities and partnerships to construct additional hostels and classrooms.

‎The Principal, Mr. Francis Musyimi, thanked the CCF for his continued support to the college, including the deployment of about 30 newly recruited staff. He welcomed the new students and urged them to remain diligent in their studies. He noted that this year had recorded the highest student recruitment in the history of the institution.

‎On his part, the FoLEA Commanding Officer said the Academy was mandated to train technical and security officers and equip them with the skills required to protect Kenya’s forests. He welcomed law enforcement officers from Nyamira County and community forest scouts from Kwale and Kilifi Counties who are currently undertaking paramilitary training. He added that FoLEA also offers specialised training programmes to officers from other institutions.

‎Also present at the event were the Regional Forest Conservator for Mau, Mr. Denis Kerengo; the County Forest Conservator for Kericho, Mr. James Kwambai; and other KFS officials.

The student body conducted elections to select their representatives to the Student Council. Supervised by the Office of the Dean of Students, the process allowed the learners to elect leaders who will represent their interests to the college administration and address their welfare during their time at the college.

KFC Hosts South Rift Hospital Medical Outreach...

Today, Kenya Forestry College (KFC), hosted a medical outreach by , aimed at promoting health awareness, preventive care and overall wellness among students and staff.
The programme began with an informative health talk at the Dinning Hall, where participants both students and the staff were sensitised on HIV and AIDS, as well as Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). The session emphasised the importance of prevention, responsible health choices, regular testing and seeking medical attention early.
Following the health talk, students and staff accessed a range of free medical services at the college dispensary, including general medical consultations, blood pressure checks, blood sugar testing, BMI assessment, mental health and stress management education, as well as lifestyle and nutrition counselling.

The outreach provided an important opportunity for the KFC community to priorities their health through early detection, prevention and informed lifestyle choices.

KFC continues to champion the wellbeing of its students and staff by creating opportunities that promote a healthy and productive learning environment.

The excitement continues on Day 2 of the KETISA Games as Kenya Forestry College teams remain determined to make their mark.
‎Our Men's Volleyball team successfully advanced to the quarter-finals after an impressive performance in the group stage. Congratulations to the team for their resilience, teamwork and commitment.
‎Adding to the day's motivation, the College Deputy Principal, Mr. John Owuor, joined the team to cheer on and encourage our student-athletes as they continue competing with pride and sportsmanship.
