🌍 HOW WAS THE UN FORMED? THE STORY AFTER WORLD WAR II

Did you know the United Nations was born from the ashes of World War II to make sure it never happens again?

Here's how it happened:

1️⃣ The Name Came First — In 1942, US President Franklin D. Roosevelt coined the term "United Nations" when 26 Allied nations signed the Declaration by United Nations, pledging to fight the Axis Powers together.

2️⃣ The Blueprint — In 1944, at the Dumbarton Oaks Conference in Washington D.C., the big four — USA, UK, Soviet Union, and China — sat down and drafted the first plan for a world peace organization to replace the failed League of Nations.

3️⃣ The Historic Meeting — From April 25 to June 26, 1945, as WWII was ending, 50 countries met in San Francisco at the United Nations Conference on International Organization. They were devastated and wanted peace.

4️⃣ The Charter Signed — On June 26, 1945, those 50 countries signed the UN Charter — the founding document that says its purpose is to "save succeeding generations from the scourge of war," promote human rights, and be a center for harmonizing nations.

5️⃣ Official Birth — The UN officially came into existence on October 24, 1945, after the Charter was ratified by the 5 permanent members — China, France, Soviet Union, UK, USA — and a majority of other signatories. That's why we celebrate UN Day every October 24th.

From 50 founding members to 193 today, the UN was built on one simple principle: collective security — no country should be allowed to attack another, and if it does, all others must act together.

While we are in 2026, the whole world isn't...

1) Ethiopia 🇪🇹 — 2018
Ethiopia uses its own calendar, 7-8 years behind us. They have 13 months and are just entering 2019 today. They celebrate New Year on Sept 11th!

2) Iran 🇮🇷 — 1405
3) Afghanistan 🇦🇫 — 1405
Both use the Solar Hijri calendar. It starts from the Hijra of Prophet Muhammad but counts solar years, making it one of the most accurate calendars in the world.

4) Nepal 🇳🇵 — 2083
Nepal uses the Bikram Sambat calendar, which is 56 years and 8 months AHEAD of us. They are already living in the future.

5) Thailand 🇹🇭 — 2569
Thailand uses the Buddhist Calendar. Year 0 is the year Buddha attained Nirvana. So add 543 years to our year.

6) Japan 🇯🇵 — Reiwa 8
Japan officially uses the Imperial Era. It's year 8 of Emperor Naruhito's reign, Reiwa. So 2026 is Reiwa 8 for them.

7) Taiwan 🇹🇼 — 115
Taiwan uses the Minguo calendar. Year 1 is 1912, the founding of the Republic of China. So 2026 is Year 115.

8) Israel 🇮🇱 — 5786
Israel uses the Hebrew calendar, counting from the biblical creation. According to them, the world is already 5786 years old.

September 11, 2001 started as a beautiful, clear Tuesday morning in New York. By sunset, the world had changed forever. In just 102 minutes, four hijacked planes turned symbols of American power into scenes of tragedy and unimaginable heroism. It remains the deadliest terrorist attack in human history.

Here are 5 facts you should never forget:

1) The Timeline of Terror: At 8:46 AM Flight 11 hit the North Tower. At 9:03 AM Flight 175 hit the South Tower live on TV. At 9:37 AM Flight 77 hit the Pentagon. At 10:03 AM Flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers fought back.

2) The Towers Fell So Fast: The South Tower collapsed after burning for just 56 minutes. The North Tower fell after 102 minutes. Both were 110 stories tall.

3) The Human Cost: 2,977 innocent people were killed. They were from over 90 countries. Among them were 343 firefighters, 72 police officers, and 55 military personnel who died trying to save others.

4) Flight 93's Heroes: Passengers on Flight 93 learned about the other attacks from phone calls and decided to fight. Their courage prevented the plane from hitting its target, believed to be the US Capitol.

5) The Aftermath: The fires at Ground Zero burned for 99 days. The cleanup took 8 months. The health effects on survivors and first responders continue to this day, 25 years later.

🇺🇸 DID YOU KNOW: LAKE ONTARIO IS NOW SHOWING AS "LAKE AMERICA" ON APPLE MAPS? 🗺️

In a move that has stunned users on both sides of the border, Apple has officially changed the name of Lake Ontario to "Lake America" in its Maps app.

As of September 1st, 2026, if you open Apple Maps in the United States, one of the five Great Lakes is now labeled Lake America. If you open it in Canada, it still says Lake Ontario. For the rest of the world, Apple is showing both names side by side.

The change comes just days after President Donald Trump signed an executive order on August 27th directing the U.S. Department of the Interior to update the lake's name in the federal Geographic Names Information System. Apple says its policy is to reflect official government sources, and it updated the label after the GNIS was changed.

Apple is not the first to do it. Google Maps made the same switch on August 30th for U.S. users, becoming the first tech giant to comply. This is the second time both companies have followed this kind of order, after they changed the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America for U.S. users in early 2025.

Not everyone is following. MapQuest announced it will NOT change the name and will continue to show Lake Ontario, a decision that has sent it shooting to No. 1 on the free App Store chart in the U.S., overtaking ChatGPT.

☢️ A FEW HOURS AFTER THIS PHOTO WAS TAKEN, EVERYTHING WOULD CHANGE ☢️

This is the control room of Reactor No. 4 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The photo was taken just hours before April 26, 1986.

There is zero recorded history of a wild cheetah ever killing a human being — a record no other big cat can claim.

Unlike lions and tigers, cheetahs don't even belong to the same group as the roaring cats. They are in the Felinae subfamily, the same biological subfamily as your house cat. Because of their unique vocal cord structure, they physically cannot roar. Instead, they purr loudly when content, hiss when annoyed, and meow or chirp like birds to call to each other. That chirping call can sound so much like a bird that it confuses people hearing it for the first time in the bush.

This calm, almost domestic temperament is why they have a 4,000-year history as companions. Egyptian pharaohs, Indian maharajas, and Mughal emperors famously kept them as leashed hunting partners, walking them on leads like dogs. They were trained to ride on horseback or on carts to the hunt, then released to sprint down antelope. Afterwards, they would return calmly to their handler for a reward. Try that with a lion.

Their peaceful track record with humans comes down to evolution. A cheetah is built for one thing only: lightweight speed. They have blunt, semi-retractable claws for grip like running spikes, small jaws, and a fragile, greyhound-like frame. They have no power to wrestle large prey. To them, an upright adult human looks huge and intimidating.

And for a cheetah, one injury is a death sentence. If they get hurt in a fight, they can't reach 120 km/h, they can't hunt, and they will starve. So their instinct is always the same — flight over fight, every single time. They would rather run away than risk everything.

The fastest land animal on Earth is also one of the most gentle.

🌍 DID YOU KNOW: HOMO ERECTUS LEFT AFRICA LONG BEFORE WE DID? 🌍

Long before Homo sapiens began spreading across the globe, another human ancestor was already on the move. Homo erectus ventured far beyond Africa, with fossils found as far as Dmanisi in Georgia dating back around 1.8 million years. From there, they pushed even further east, leaving traces in China, Indonesia, and across Asia. Sites like “Java Man” and “Peking Man” show just how far these early travelers made it.

So what did they encounter in these new worlds? A planet that was wild, unfamiliar, and often dangerous. Homo erectus walked into ice age grasslands, thick forests, and volcanic landscapes they had never seen before. They met animals we can only imagine now — giant hyenas, saber-toothed cats, and herds of ancient deer and elephants. There were no other humans to compete with, but survival still meant adapting fast.

They managed it with tools, teamwork, and fire. Their bodies were tall and built for long-distance travel, and their stone tools show they could hunt large game and process meat. Fire likely helped them cook food and stay warm as they moved into cooler climates. This adaptability is why Homo erectus lasted for nearly 2 million years, far longer than any human species since.

In many ways, Homo erectus were the first true explorers. They proved that leaving Africa and colonizing new continents wasn’t something unique to modern humans. The great migration started with them, long before we ever took our first steps out.
