Beyond its simple addition rule, it serves as a powerful mathematical tool used to find binomial coefficients, calculate probabilities, and solve combinatorics problems (like finding combinations). It also contains a multitude of hidden numerical patterns, such as the Fibonacci sequence, triangular numbers, and exponents of 11.
