Africa Higher Education Research Institute - AHERI The AHERI 2020 Conference brings together researchers, practitioners and policy actors to reflect on Activities:

AHERI focuses on Africa as opposed to individual countries because the
initiative would be more sustainable at the initial stages. This is due to the fact that the overhead
cost of individual country or institutional investment into the initiative has proved to be limiting. The countries in this region are also interconnected economically and socially hence gains made
in one country can easily be

lost or have reduced effect if others are not taken into consideration. Strategic objectives:

• Develop a network of higher education researchers.
• Create and facilitate collaborative research between higher education institutions.
• Scientifically develop information useful for policy formulation for development.
• Increase higher education profile as an avenue for development. Thematic areas:
• Governance Structures and Reform within higher education institutions
• Quality Assurance systems and structures within higher education system
• Accessibility to higher education by all segments of the society
• Match and Mismatch of higher education qualification in the job market.
• Research Funding and its effect to development of higher education and the society. Organize conferences to increase discourse and debate on thematic areas of concern.
2. Develop and carry out research projects for clients with common ideals of making higher
education relevant to world of work and society.
3. Facilitate and promote publications on higher education research.
4. Organize public debates and produce position papers on current and critical affairs of the
society.
5. Facilitate scholarship and support for masters and doctoral studies for Africans.

Africa Higher Education Research Institute - AHERI Director, Robert Owino Odera was a panelist at the The Kenya Alliance of Resident Associations Bi-Monthly talks, Kisumu Edition. Owino Odera spoke on leveraging on to strengthen and address Resident and Community Group issues comprehensively. Owino Odera is also the founding Chairman of Kajulu Residents Association.

The engagement forum held in partnership with Hanns Seidel Foundation Kenya delved into the Role of Resident Associations & Community Groups towards Strengthening Accountability & Effective Service Delivery.

Nixon Otieno-Omumbo Samba, Board Chairman & CEO City of Kisumu Urban Areas Association, was also in attendance alongside The Kenya Alliance of Resident Associations CEO, Henry Ochieng.
