In line with the Competency-Based Education (CBE) goal of promoting practical skills through hands-on learning, our Grade 4 learners yesterday completed their first Home Science project. With guidance from their teachers and Head Chef Terry, they moved from the classroom to the kitchen to prepare a nutritious meal. The menu of the day featured an impressive spread: egg curry, chicken wet fry, fresh vegetables, and perfectly steamed rice.
This hands-on activity connected what they learned in school with everyday life. Under expert supervision, the students practiced kitchen hygiene, safe tool handling, and teamwork. The day’s highlights included a shared lunch and the pride they felt while enjoying the dishes they had made from scratch.

Beyond meeting academic goals, the real outcome of this project was how it brought the key skills of CBE to life. By working together to prepare the meal, the students improved their communication and problem-solving abilities, which helped build their confidence. This practical experience sparked an eagerness in many students to assist their parents with cooking at home. It also inspired some to consider future careers in catering and the culinary arts.

Our participation in the inter-school Creative Activities Competition today was a significant achievement for our Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) department. Competing for the first time against a strong group of 23 experienced schools, our preschool learners surpassed all expectations by securing podium finishes in several categories. Our talented learners earned a commendable second place in both the Group Shairi (Swahili poems) and Creative Dance categories, as well as an impressive third place in the Fashion Show and Poem presentations. To celebrate their hard work, they received official certificates of merit.
The positive impact of this experience on our young learners is huge. Beyond the excitement of winning, performing on a public stage greatly boosted their self-confidence and self-esteem, turning initial nervousness into belief in themselves. Preparing for the English poems and Swahili Shairi helped them pick up language skills faster, improving their speech, memory, and vocal skills. Physically, the creative dance and fashion show developed their spatial awareness and coordination, letting them express their personality and grace through movement.

To mark , Alumni Association of KCA University brought together alumni, staff, students, community leaders and learners from neighbouring primary and secondary schools in Kanyakwar, Kisumu, for a tree planting initiative aimed at restoring and protecting our environment. A delegation of our grade 4 learners participated in a tree planting ceremony in Awaya grounds. Together, we successfully planted over 120 trees as team Ndoto.
