Meet the Technical Committee for the Establishment of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Programme, the team behind the work that brought us to this milestone.

Bringing together professionals from Kabarnet University College, the County Government of Baringo’s health department and Baringo County Referral Hospital, the committee met week after week to work through the details, assess requirements and keep the vision of nursing education at KUC moving forward.

Brilliant minds, dedicated professionals and a team that left no stone unturned.

Much of their work happened away from the spotlight, but every meeting, discussion and recommendation brought the dream one step closer to reality.

Today, we celebrate not just the signing, but the people whose commitment, collaboration and attention to detail helped make it possible.

Let the record show that Kabarnet University College,
Baringo County Referral Hospital and the Baringo County Government put in the work and, when all was said and done, signed on the dotted line to show just how deep their commitment goes.

Over the next few months, the work continues to ensure that by January 2027, classes are underway and we welcome our first cohort of learners.

The groundwork has been laid. Now, we build.

Today, the ink on paper brought an important partnership to life as officials from Kabarnet University College (KUC) and Baringo County Referal Hospital ( BCRH) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to lay the groundwork for the establishment of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing programme at Kabarnet University College.

As the ink sets and dries, the work ahead begins in earnest.

The signing marks an important step in KUC’s journey towards expanding opportunities for professional health training in the region. Through the partnership, KUC and BCRH will collaborate in creating the practical and institutional foundation required to support the proposed nursing programme, with BCRH playing an important role as a clinical training partner.

The cooperation will support areas including clinical training, access to appropriate health facilities and learning environments, technical collaboration, mentorship and the development of the structures required for the programme. Both institutions are committing their expertise, facilities and human resources towards creating an environment that can support quality nursing education and training.

The MoC is also part of the broader preparatory work for the proposed programme. As KUC works towards meeting the requirements for the establishment of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing programme, the institution is undertaking site assessment and engagement with selected health facilities to establish the clinical training capacity required. A checklist of seven hospitals has been developed, with Baringo County Referral Hospital among the facilities being considered as part of this process.

The journey does not end with the signing ceremony. It is, in many ways, where the real work begins.

The immediate focus will be on completing the necessary groundwork, strengthening institutional and clinical partnerships, meeting the relevant regulatory and quality requirements and putting in place the structures needed to support the programme.

The goal is to have the proposed programme ready for rollout in January 2027, subject to the completion of the required approvals and processes.

For KUC, this is more than an agreement between two institutions. It is part of a wider commitment to expanding access to relevant, practical and quality university education while responding to the needs of the community and the region.

Today, we signed the MoC.

Tomorrow, the work continues.

The Kabarnet University College team was warmly welcomed to the Baringo County Referral Hospital Boardroom by Dr. Gerishom Abhakalwa, who opened the morning’s proceedings by explaining the purpose of the meeting and the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding between KUC and Baringo County Government through BCRH.

Dr. Abhakalwa’s welcome and briefing provided an opportunity for those present to familiarise themselves with the contents of the MoU, understand the areas of collaboration and appreciate the purpose behind the agreement.

With the formalities underway, the teams are now set for the next stage of this important engagement.

Kabarnet University College welcomed representatives from The Co-operative Bank of Kenya during a courtesy call at the College.

The delegation included Dan Musungu from Co-operative Bank Headquarters.

The delegation included Dan Musungu from Co-operative Bank Headquarters, Nancy Tuikong and Dorsilla Ogolla from the Head Office.

They were received by the Principal Prof.Daniel C. Rotich, Finance Officer Robert Kiprono and the Acting Deputy Principal, Prof. Cheboi Yegon.

The visit provided an opportunity for engagement between the College and the Co-operative Bank team as KUC continues to build and strengthen relationships with its stakeholders.
